As each day goes by, we get a little closer to the start of the NFL Season. Fans are getting anxious and ready to see the new look San Diego Chargers in action. There is just excitement in general for the first game and the entire season, but there are also some matchups this year that fans should be thrilled to watch.

Ryan Mathews vs. Darren McFadden/Jamaal Charles

This should be the year where we find out who the best running back in the AFC West really is. Three of the top ten backs in the league will first need to accomplish one thing: stay healthy. When Jamaal Charles is healthy, he's one of the most elusive runners in the NFL. When Darren McFadden is healthy, he can beat you with speed or strength. Ryan Mathews has yet to been deemed an elite back, but this could be the year he opens people's eyes.

Game(s): 9/10 @ Oakland, 9/30 @ Kansas City, 11/1 vs. Kansas City, 12/30 vs. Oakland.

Eric Weddle vs. Eric Berry

Only one Eric can be the best safety of the AFC West. Weddle became San Diego's best defensive player last year, being selected to the NFL's All-Pro First Team. He proved to everyone that he earned the contract he signed before last season that made him the highest paid safety in history. Berry, the third year safety, tore his ACL in the first game of last season causing him to miss the rest of the year. In his rookie season before that, Eric Berry was a Pro Bowl selection.

Game(s): 9/30 @Kansas City, 11/1 vs. Kansas City.

Chargers vs. Drew Brees/Darren Sproles

The first time the "lightning bug'' will face his former team, it will be in New Orleans, not San Diego. Darren Sproles, the Chargers old exciting back, will take on San Diego this season with another former Charger, Drew Brees. With everything that's going on around the Saints, those two players will bring their A game each and every night. It would've been more interesting to see the two teams play in San Diego. I'm sure Chargers fans would give a warm welcoming to Brees and Sproles. One player that will be making his return to New Orleans is wide receiver Robert Meachem. A lot of familiar faces will be present in that game.

Game: 10/7 @ New Orleans

Chargers vs. Vincent Jackson

Another former star will face the Chargers this season. Like Brees and Sproles, Vincent Jackson will also not travel to San Diego, but welcome the Chargers to his new home Tampa Bay. After signing a huge contract, San Diego will see what Jackson can do against the team he's been with his entire career. The Chargers signed Robert Meachem and Eddie Royal for the price of VJ. This game will be highly anticipated by Jackson fans.

Game: 11/11 @ Tampa Bay

Philip Rivers vs. Peyton Manning

When Peyton Manning signed with the Broncos, Philip Rivers said he had no problem with it. Rivers is a feisty player that loves competition, just ask Jay Cutler. With the recent trouble Manning has had against San Diego's defense, Rivers should have no problem with him in Denver. After all the talk has been talked and all the predictions have been made, one quarterback will come out on top each game. One quarterback will have a better game than the other. It's time for Philip Rivers to shine against one of the all-time greats.

Game(s): 10/15 vs. Denver, 11/18 @ Denver.
