Terrell Suggs Injury: What It Means for the Pittsburgh Steelers

Robert TheodorsonJun 7, 2018

Terrell Suggs has been a thorn in the side of the Steelers since he entered the league in 2003.

The well-documented trash talker has been the most dominant pass-rusher the Baltimore Ravens have ever had.

If Ben Roethlisberger gets any pregame jitters before the start of the NFL's best rivalry game, you can bet it's because of Suggs. During Steelers-Ravens games, Suggs almost seems to paint a bull's-eye on Ben's chest, targeting the quarterback every chance he gets, even after the ball is thrown.

In his nine years in the league, Suggs has missed just three games, all coming in 2009, but , but he won't be on the field this fall, as Suggs told ESPN Thursday he injured his Achilles and will likely be out for at least the first half of the upcoming season.

To show just how much of a force the outside linebacker has been against the Steelers, here are his numbers from the last five season:

2011 Season

6 Tackles, 3 Sacks, 2 Forced Fumbles, 1 Interception

Suggs recorded more sacks, more forced fumbles and more interceptions against the Steelers than any other team played that year.

2010 Season

9 Tackles, 3 Sacks

Suggs recorded more sacks against the Steelers than any other team played that year.

2009 Season

5 Tackles

2008 Season

8 Tackles, 2 Sacks, 1 Forced Fumble

Suggs recorded more tackles against the Steelers than any other team played that year.

2007 Season

14 Tackles, 1 Sack

Suggs recorded more tackles against the Steelers than any other team played that year.

With new rookie offensive linemen David DeCastro and Mike Adams needing some room for adjusting to the NFL, not having to face the AFC's most feared sack master is a gift and a treat.

Steelers fans can preemptively rejoice the fact that not only do they have a stable offensive line for the first time since Alan Faneca left, but also Ben Roethlisberger's injury concerns can be reduced by just that much to put a smile on Steelers Nation.
