WWE: John Cena Should Thank Brock Lesnar for Demolishing Him at Extreme Rules
In his very recent Bleacher Report article entitled “Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena: Super Heel Lesnar Will Return WWE Universe to Cena," Andrew Kulha wrote that “Brock Lesnar hasn’t come to save the WWE. He’s come to save John Cena.”
Kulha also wrote that “The bigger the heel, the bigger the hero needed to take him out, and if Lesnar continues his rampage through the WWE universe, eventually people will be crying out for Cena.”
After tonight's Extreme Rules PPV, it seems that Brock Lesnar has in fact saved John Cena. How did Lesnar save Cena? Lesnar did so by being monstrous enough to get the WWE universe to "cry out" for help from Cena. Getting the fans back on Cena's side was inevitably going to happen.

How did Cena win back the WWE universe (at least for now)?
To answer this question, I will explain how Cena won ME back.
At Money In The Bank 2011 in Chicago, I booed John Cena until I lost my voice. I did not boo Cena because I hated him, but because I disliked the status quo of the WWE at the time. I wanted change. I was tired of Super-Cena.
I wanted change and I got it. Times have changed. John Cena is not the WWE Champion. Furthermore, since his loss at WrestleMania XXVIII to The Rock, Cena has been made to look like an underdog—even after his win against Brock Lesnar tonight.
I did not attend Extreme Rules, but if I did, I would have booed Brock Lesnar and rooted for John Cena from the get-go. I wouldn’t have waited until Cena got so demolished that people started to feel sorry for him—as some Chicago fans did.
Why?
Unlike Lesnar, Cena has never left the WWE. Unlike Lesnar, Cena seems to love the business. In the match buildup and during tonight’s match itself, John Cena came across as a genuine baby-face, and Brock Lesnar came across as a genuine heel. The match was storytelling at its best.
Tonight’s match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar was not about the status quo vs. change, as it was at Money in the Bank 2011 with CM Punk vs. Cena. It was about a man who loves the wrestling business vs. an unstoppable force who couldn't care less about the wrestling business.
Thanks to Brock Lesnar's behavior, I like John Cena for the first time since before he first won the WWE Championship. Thanks to Brock Lesnar, John Cena’s relationship with the WWE universe seems to have been saved… at least for now.
Some fans might ask, “Where does Brock Lesnar go from here? Isn't he supposed to be an unstoppable monster? What was the point of bringing him back if he's just going to lose to John Cena?”
Fans should not worry. John Cena won the battle, but Brock Lesnar won the war. Did Brock care more about winning or more about destroying Cena? If his goal was to destroy Cena, he may have succeeded—considering John Cena seems to be headed for a vacation due to injury.
