Barcelona Transfer Rumours: 8 Players Who Could Actually Make Them Better
Chelsea may have gotten the better of Barcelona in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final and Real Madrid may have a four-point lead in La Liga, but at the end of the day we are talking about Barca.
Europe and Spain have been brought to their knees by the dominance of Pep Guardiola's side over the past several years, and they are still in just as good of a position to be right back on top by the end of next week.
A three-point swing with an El Classico victory this weekend would see them pull to within a point of first and a two goal shut out at home would send them to another Champions League final.
But, the real question is if the defending European Champions can get any better.
Here are several players who could work to make the club better due to their specific areas of skill and talent.
Mats Hummels
1 of 9Mats Hummels is one of the brightest young defensive talents in the world.
The Borussia Dortmund starlet is equally comfortable as a defensive midfielder going forward, and his aerial skills in attack are also excellent.
Another young defender to grow into his skills as Gerard Pique did would be an excellent step in the right direction for Barca.
Eden Hazard
2 of 9While Barcelona are by far starved for excellent wide players with Alexis Sanchez, Pedro, Lionel Messi and all their midfielders additionally able to push out when needed, it is always great to have more talent.
Hazard is looking for playing time first and foremost; that makes Barcelona not likely be his best move from a personal stand point.
However, if he is looking to be part of a squad that will test all of his ability and excite his potential along with offering football in Europe's elite each year, it would be a great move for both club and player.
Fernando Llorente
3 of 9Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente could boost the attacking options of Barcelona in many ways.
The Barca striker force is primarily made up of smaller players because of their fluid total football approach and style. In fact Isaac Cuenca is their tallest forward at only 5'11".
However, a large framed attacker like the 6'5" Llorente could be a huge plus as an additional option on the bench or the pitch. If it came down to a match where Barcelona were facing large defenders that were out muscling the smaller forwards such as Alexis Sanchez or Lionel Messi.
Daniel Agger
4 of 9Liverpool and Danish national team defender Daniel Agger is as much an attacker as he is a defender in many ways.
He can play on left side as a fullback or as a central defender and possibly even a deep defensive mid with his ability on the ball.
Agger also is a great striker of the ball from distance and in the box, and with the aging Carlos Puyol eventually going to retire, the big Dane would be a great addition next to Gerard Pique.
Christian Eriksen
5 of 9Christian Eriksen would be a hard player to pry away from Ajax as he is key to the Dutch club already and he knows he would not be a first team choice at Barcelona.
However, that is not to say he would not make the club better. Some time at the Barcelona training ground would continue to develop his style of total football, as well as increase his ability with better squad mate competition.
His long term potential would only add to Barcelona's believed young player dominance.
Mario Goetze
6 of 9Mario Goetze would be a great young pick up for Barcelona.
While he would be hard pressed to join a side like Barca just as both Hazard and Eriksen would because of a desire to keep pitch time to develop, his potential skill contribution to the side would only get better.
Gareth Bale
7 of 9Gareth Bale could prove a worthwhile addition if he does not cost an astronomical amount of money.
He has the ability to be either a left back or a left winger, and would be in many ways a left sided version of Dani Alves if he was placed at the back.
Robin Van Persie
8 of 9It would be hard to imagine a side that Robin Van Persie would not make better.
Not only is he an excellent striker, but he is just as good off the ball contributing with the build up and attacking play.
His Dutch upbringing in total football along with Arsene Wenger's style have made him a highly talented all around forward.
Conclusion
9 of 9Barcelona truly are one of the most highly skilled and well oiled machines on the planet.
These additions could definitely make them better by adding different dynamics and ranges of ability, but even then it is hard to see them being even more dominant than now.
