NBA Rumors: Power Ranking Top Free-Agent Destinations for Lamar Odom
Lamar Odom has not officially reached any sort of agreement with the Dallas Mavericks to become a free agent after the season. It’s becoming apparent that the reason for that is timing and financials more than a desire by either party to honor the current contract in place.
According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, Odom is due $8.2 million for the 2012-13 season with a clause that allows him to be bought out for $2.4 million prior to June 29. Since March 23 has passed—the deadline for a player to be waived and still contribute in the postseason—there is no sense of urgency to finalize this breakup.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some potential suitors and landing destinations for Lamar if and when he departs from the Mavericks.
Los Angeles Lakers
Odom has historically had success with the Lakers and was an integral part of two championship teams.
The player and organization had a falling out when Odom learned that he was supposed to be a part of the commissioner-vetoed trade to land Chris Paul in the purple and gold.
Lamar then requested a trade away from the team, but now must realize it was foolish to leave ideal situation – but L.A. is also a place he would be welcomed back to with open arms.
Kobe Bryant, Metta World Peace and a number of other former teammates are already on the record saying they wish for him to return next season.
Miami Heat
Odom spent time in South Beach earlier in his career before being a part of the Shaquille O’Neal trade in 2004.
There would be no better time than now to return.
The 32-year-old forward would become a perfect rotation player for the Heat because of his extremely versatile skills.
He could play and back up a number of positions and make Miami’s bench feared, not a joke.
New York Knicks
The Knicks are struggling with injuries and depth this season. Odom would instantly give them a contributor that is far better than anyone on their bench currently.
It is worth a shot for New York to go after a career 14.2 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 3.9 APG, 0.9 BPG and 0.9 SPG guy if they can get him for a reasonable price.
