WWE Raw Results: Top 15 Moments from Last Night's Show
WWE Raw was a solid show last night. It certainly did not top last week's, but that is fine. Not every single show is going to be a home run.
The Red Brand delivered a nice effort, and the momentum has been carried for another week. With next Monday's show in London, it will be a very interesting seven days. If I had to grade the show, I would fall in the B range.
What were the top 15 moments? Let's find out!
15. Del Rio vs. Ryder
1 of 15Remember when Alberto Del Rio made Zack Ryder tap out in about a minute?
Yeah, that was six months ago.
It also happened last night on Raw.
Ryder is officially stuck in the mid card. His comedy character has finally run its course, as I wrote about multiple times in the past year.
Without a gimmick change, he was done.
Del Rio destroyed him, and nobody cared. I am intrigued by the former WWE Champion looking so dominant since returning. Tomorrow's Smackdown will be "must-see."
14. Tuesday Special
2 of 15I covered this a little bit a few days ago.
Bring back some legends will be fun. Seeing a few of them is always a treat.
However, the idea of a live Smackdown on Tuesday is not.
Once again, ratings for the live show will not increase.
The hype and build renders the show pointless for the network.
On top of that, it costs more to run a live show over a taped show, so WWE will lose out here.
It just isn't worth the trouble. All of this will be proven to be correct Wednesday afternoon when the television rating comes up.
13. Truth vs. Rhodes
3 of 15R-Truth continues his Little Jimmy character. I enjoy it, but it sure does stick him in the mid card. There is no escaping that feeling.
He was in a match against Cody Rhodes last night. Of course, Big Show got involved a few minutes into the segment.
He distracted Rhodes, and Truth picked up the win.
I am shocked these two are still feuding. These two built up a feud, with the entire focus being on Mania. That show has come and gone.
It is time both men move on.
12. Teddy Long
4 of 15Teddy Long is a great talent.
However, I enjoy his role right now. Mr. Excitement is bossing him around, and it will make for a great pay off later on.
As most assumed, the general managers' battle at Mania really didn't end things. It was only the beginning...
11. Next Week
5 of 15The Miz was teased of having a major role next week on Raw. The same could be said for Eve Torres.
Johnny Ace promised he would deal with them next Monday. This is the same man who built up Brodus Clay for weeks on end, but you never know.
Also, Mark Henry will get a WWE Championship match against CM Punk next week. It will be a no count out, no disqualification match.
The show will be taped, so that is some nice hype for viewers to watch.
10. Three Stooges
6 of 15The backstage segments with Santino Marella were fine.
The Three Stooges inside the squared circle was a bad move from the beginning. I doubt the live crowd cared about them, and their skit just wasn't funny.
The audience barely reacted for Hulk Hogan's music, and that may be the saddest part of this all. His star may officially be "dead" in 2012. Nobody cares anymore.
Just ask TNA and their ratings...
Eventually, Kane came out and saved this. If you haven't seen this, go ahead and watch the video!
9. Funky Cobra
7 of 15Brodus Clay and Santino Marella defeated Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler in a nice tag team match. All four men worked hard, and I was entertained.
The right man won, and nobody was hurt one bit by this segment.
Finally, all three women looked stunning. Cameron, Naomi and Vickie Guerrero deserve major, major praise this week.
8. Tensai vs. Tatsu
8 of 15This was a quality portion of the show.
Lord Tensai demolished Yoshi Tatsu, just as he should have. The man will continue to win for a while, and I wouldn't expect anything less.
For those who remember Umaga debuting in 2006, this will be the exact same scenario.
Of course, there was one issue I had with this...
7. Live Crowd
9 of 15Do fans chant "Mean Mark" at Undertaker?
Do fans chant "Blue Blood" at Triple H?
No.
Can somebody explain to me why fans chanted "Albert" at Lord Tensai last night?
The same thing happened with Mark Henry a few months ago, and I am sure it will come up again. It adds nothing positive to the show, other than for some to try and "prove" you read dirt sheet online.
That is it.
Why not take all that excellent, loud, and excited energy and chant "Tensai sucks" next time?
It will add more to the show and actually help Tensai. Instead of trying to overshadow what is going on inside the ring...
Speaking of, how about that fan support for Daniel Bryan on Raw? I must have missed it.
6. Cena vs Otunga
10 of 15Two years ago in April, John Cena defeated David Otunga on Raw.
Last night, it was the same match with the same result. That is not a complaint. It was simply a small fact to throw out there.
I enjoy the work from both men, and the finish was correct. Cena beat Otunga, and he did so clean in the middle of the ring.
5. Punk and Jericho Feud
11 of 15CM Punk has been great the past few months.
Chris Jericho has had an awesome return.
However, their feud needs to be coming to an end in the next month. I understand they will likely battle at Extreme Rules, and that is fine.
The only problem is, I do not see Jericho winning the gold. There is just zero reason for him to do so. Thus, this can only continue for so long.
Adding the family into this has been fun. Them being ringside in Chicago will likely be a big selling point, but that may be the finale. There is not much left for Punk and Jericho to do.
4. WWE Title Match
12 of 15Why was there zero hype for a WWE Championship match last night?
That just can't keep happening. The company gave a little bit of attention to next week, but that is simply too much. Three straight weeks of WWE title matches?
No thanks.
Either way, Mark Henry and CM Punk had a quick brawl. The match never went too far, but it still happened.
Jericho poured some alcohol on Punk, just like last week. Again, this feud has been entertaining, but it seems to be ending soon.
3. Extras
13 of 151. Yesterday, it was reported that WWE was not going to mention UFC by name at all. I would like to thank everybody once again for the accurate wrestling news!
WWE repeatedly said the letters "UFC," as did Brock Lesnar. There was no truth to the report one bit, and it was definitely worth pointing out. It seemed like someone took a 50/50 guess and was wrong.
Don't forget the brilliant "exclusive" about Triple H retiring last year!
2. Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena was made for Extreme Rules. While I sense it was too early for such a big match, this works on a few levels.
First, it tells me Lesnar will be facing a lot of opponents. WWE is going to run through guys for him to defeat. The Rock only came back for one feud last year. Lesnar will be back to feud with a different group of men, not just one.
Second, WWE is trying to strike while the iron is hot. They did the same with Bill Goldberg vs. The Rock in 2003. It was a huge dream match and took place at Backlash.
3. The "End of an Era" video was nearly perfect. There is a slightly different version posted above, but it doesn't matter. Everything about this was masterful. Job well done, WWE!
2. Lesnar's Character
14 of 15Brock Lesnar is the heel, just as he should be. The man is simply much better as a cocky, know-it-all figure. He just doesn't work very well as a face.
John Cena is the face, just as he has been for the past eight years. The man is the top wrestler in the business, and that isn't changing.
With that out of the way, Lesnar cut a money promo last night backstage. I posted the video because it was simply incredible.
On that note, standing beside Johnny Ace should not be a full-time deal. It was fine tonight, but Brock needs to be his own man moving forward.
The pairing established Brock was the heel and put him over as the new" face" of WWE. With People Power running things, it made sense.
Since I doubt Lesnar makes the trip to Raw next week, it was smart for him to best Cena once again. The intrigue will continue to see these two tear each other apart!
1. Opening Segment
15 of 15This was great.
I hope WWE does this again on the final Raw before Extreme Rules.
Long promos won't sell this match. Funny jokes or smiles are not needed here.
Just two men wanting to fight!
I don't know how Cena started bleeding, but it definitely added to the segment, While I doubt many believe this was all "real," it certainly felt like it.
That is what will sell this feud.
Cena has been the man for almost a decade now. Brock is back to reclaim his spot at the top of the company. Once again, keeping issues simple is what works best.
