Peyton Manning to Broncos: 49er's Alex Smith Rumors Surfacing. Are They True?

Peyton Manning's decision to join the Denver Broncos has has now created quite the situation for the San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Alex Smith.

One report has already surfaced on Boston Herald.com, with the headline inferring that Smith and the Dolphins are ironing out a deal, after a long meeting between the two sides.

The problem with this so-called "breaking news," is that I can't find anything in the article that backs up the headline.

The question is—if Smith has not inked anything with the Dolphins, should he run back to San Francisco and mend that relationship?

The other option would be to make the 49ers sweat a little. 

Without Alex Smith, what options do the 49ers have?  Go with Colin Kaepernick?  I doubt it. What about Matt Flynn? Oops, sorry, that ship has sailed.

David Garrard is now healthy and ready for action.  How does that sound to 49er's fans?

This whole situation with Manning going to Denver has now seemingly given the advantage back to Alex Smith, as far as negotiations are concerned.

The right move for Smith would be to go and make a deal with his current team, but he now has a little leverage to use to his advantage.
