Lakers Rumors: Potential Blockbuster to Acquire Dwight Howard Isn't Dead Yet
The Los Angeles Lakers are a complete mess right now from the ownership down to the ball boy, so any disillusion that a big-time trade would destroy continuity needs to be forgotten.
Itâs time to trade Pau Gasol.
With all of the talk surrounding Dwight Howardâs situation in Orlando, the powers that be for the Magic are getting antsy. If Howard is going to walk via free agency, why hold on to him?

With a team as desperate to move merchandise as the Magic and a team desperate enough to move any pieces necessary to shake things up, Howard may be in L.A. before the deadline.
Peter Vecsey of the New York Post is reporting about the possible deal that the Magic and L.A. could still work out:
"Meanwhile, back at the trading post, some deals may actually be getting close to finalization and the Lakers are in middle of them. Theyâre determined to acquire a point guard sooner than two weeks from now. If itâs a multi-player transaction, Pau Gasol will be sacrificed. Should the Magic change their mind about accepting Andrew Bynum for Howard (Pauâs inclusion might do it), Jameer Nelson would almost have to be part of the package unless an above-average ball-handler can be obtained elsewhere.
"
If the Lakers could pull this move off, not only would Howard stay in L.A., he would become the teamâs new Kobe Bryant. With the Black Mambaâs career drawing to a close, Howard will be the face of the franchise going forward.
Add in Jameer Nelson, and the Lakers look like the strongest team in the Western Conference again. While trading away Bynum and Gasol would be hard to swallow, the combination isnât nearly as talented as Howard.
Orlando would have the big men needed to replace an All-Star like Howard and a new direction in which to take its team. A fresh start for Bynum and Gasol with the Magic may be the best for all parties involved.
