Jason Whitlock writes for FOX Sports, and he loves to get people riled up. However, after controversial tweets about New York Knicks' point guard Jeremy Lin this past weekend, Whitlock would be wise to stay away from "Linsanity."

Sure, Whitlock is more than likely used to getting hate from people on Twitter, but Lin is the feel good story of the NBA this year, and his remarks about the point guard were downright childish.

He doesn't need to tweet about Lin anymore because people will continue to be reminded about his immature words, and that is not needed. It would be best if people just forgot about it, but the more Whitlock tweets about Lin and the Knicks, the more people will continue to bring it up.

It all started last Friday, when Whitlock dropped a couple tweets about Lin and all the success he's been having.

That one wasn't the worst, but it's still something that wasn't really needed. There are plenty of other ways Whitlock could have mentioned how easy it is to play against Fisher.

This tweet, on the other hand, was the one that really set people off.

Whitlock sent that tweet the night the Knicks defeated the Los Angeles Lakers. It was a huge victory for the Knicks, as Lin dropped 38 points that night. Nobody predicted Lin would be that outstanding, which is why Whitlock tweeted about Lin getting lucky with the ladies.

Not only was the tweet extremely offensive, it's a slap in the face to the young point guard. It just goes to show that Whitlock, someone who is supposed to be a respected professional, has no problem with being unprofessional on Twitter.

Lin has never done anything negative in his quick rise to fame, but here Whitlock is trying to bring the kid down with an awful attempt at a joke.

After Lin's game winning shot on Tuesday night, Whitlock tweeted, "Linsanity is unbelievable." The responses he got were very harsh, but Whitlock deserves some of them to an extent.

In Whitlock's column about Lin being the real deal, he does mention how his 14-word tweet about Lin was inappropriate.

That's a great step for Whitlock, but continuing to tweet about Lin won't make this go away. Yes, people should be smart enough not to keep bringing it up to Whitlock, but the writer is the one who opens it all up by tweeting about Lin in the first place.

By no longer tweeting about Lin, the bashing of Whitlock will diminish, and the story of his hateful tweet can die.

Whitlock is free to tweet whatever he wants, so unfortunately this isn't likely to go away because Lin will keep "Linsanity" going strong thanks to his great play, so Whitlock is sure to tweet about him some more.

However, if Whitlock were smart, he'd cease his Lin tweets to put an end to this mess.
