UFC 140 Results: Did Frank Mir Send Antonio Nogueira into Retirement?
If Frank Mir is not responsible for Antonio Minotauro Nogueira's retirement, I don't know who would be.
Some may argue that Minotauro just should have tapped to Mir, but have you ever known Minotauro to give up in a fight?
Exactly right, you have not known Nogueira to give up in a fight, and neither has anyone else that has followed MMA for at least the past four years.
That nasty Kimura Mir sunk in certainly made people wish Nogueira had tapped, though.
In a way, this all started with Nogueira doing what he had to do, which was find a finish against Mir, and he was on his way to a TKO win against Mir, but when Mir made it difficult for Nogueira to land clean shots to the head, Nogueira thought he had an opening for a guillotine choke and took it.
Oh, the big mistake that wound up being, as it eventually led to the Kimura that snapped Nogueira's arm.
The good news is that Dana White even admits that before the Kimura, Nogueira looked like the same Nogueira that turned it up against Brendan Schaub in Rio, and while Dana still isn't publicly seen as one to let guys take punishment just to sell out his events, he also didn't hint that much at the possibility of Nogueira being "done."
The bad news is that despite what Dana did say, Mir's Kimura said something that may not make it hard to think that, his longevity in the sport notwithstanding, Saturday night might really have been the last time we're ever going to see Nogueira inside the Octagon.
