Dan Gilbert Should Accept Washington Generals' Offer

Luis BatlleDec 10, 2011

Who knows? Dan Gilbert could possibly be suiting up in a basketball uniform sometime soon.

Known by some as the "LeBron James hater," the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers is now speaking out publicly on the Chris Paul trade that would have sent the All-Star point guard to the Lakers.

According to ESPN, Gilbert not only disagreed with the trade, but said 25 of the 30 teams would be just like the Washington Generals.

The Generals, who are notorious for losing basketball games against the Harlem Globetrotters, were called out for no apparent reason.

In response to these remarks, the Generals' longtime owner Red Klotz humorously sent Gilbert a letter asking him to either play or coach an exhibition game with the team.

In the letter, Klotz says that they hope that with Gilbert's help as either a player or coach, the team can end its 40-year long losing streak to the Harlem Globetrotters.

The Cavaliers have games against both the Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons on the 26th and 28th of December. So technically, the team will be off on Dec. 27.

Gilbert is in luck.

Not to mention, the Generals have already made Gilbert a personalized jersey if he is to accept the offer, as the offer should now be all the more appealing.

If Gilbert were to accept the offer, he would be able to back up his comments and it would give him more legitimacy around the league. Making the reference he did was both unnecessary and Gilbert-esk, as making the move to coach or play in the game would give him more respect around the league.
