Arsenal vs. Everton: Complete Preview, Live Stream, Start Time and Schedule

Tim DanielsDec 7, 2011

Even though Arsenal had already secured a spot in the knockout stages, the team can't be happy with its performance in Tuesday's Champions League clash with Olympiakos. Now the Gunners must prepare for a visit from middling Everton.

Arsenal has secured at least one point in seven straight Premier League matches, including a 4-0 triumph against Wigan last weekend. In last season's two league meetings, the Gunners were able to secure all six points against the Toffees with identical 2-1 wins.

It's been a rocky first third of the season for Everton. After spending some time flirting with the relegation zone, a couple recent victories have boosted them into the middle of the pack. A lack of depth will make it tough for the Toffees to go on any extended winning streaks.

Player To Watch for Arsenal: F Gervinho

While an in-form Robin Van Persie has been dominating the headlines, Gervinho has been putting together a pretty nice season as well. The Cote d'Ivoire national team member has netted three goals and added five assists in 11 games.

Player To Watch for Everton: GK Tim Howard

Howard has been one of the few constants in Everton's lineup over the past few seasons. The athletic American keeper can often make the extraordinary look routine and will need to be on the top of his game if the Toffees are going to emerge from Saturday's clash with at least a point.

Key Matchup: Robin Van Persie vs. Marouane Fellaini

Everton will likely utilize a laid-back, conservative approach with hopes of keeping the game close. David Moyes knows his team won't be able to keep up with Arsenal if they have a lot of space to work with like the Gunners did against Chelsea in late October.

That means Fellaini, who might be known more for his hair than overall ability, will likely drop deep into the defensive third in an attempt to keep tabs on Van Persie. Few players in all of Europe have been better than the veteran Dutchman recently.

What They're Saying

Arsenal co-commentator Martin Hayes' thoughts about Tuesday's loss were posted on the team website. His point about the depth players not stepping up may seem unimportant right now, but in a season as long as the EPL's, it could eventually come into play for Wenger and Co.

"

As I said before, it's a squad game and this was another chance for some of the fringe players to shine. Most of them didn't take their opportunities, however, and that's something Arsene Wenger will be disappointed with.

"

Everton midfielder Seamus Coleman said the Toffees will enter Saturday's clash with confidence they can come out on top. It'll be an uphill battle, but with the right tactics and a few lucky bounces anything is possible.

"

“We are going to try and win the game like we always do. Sure it would be good to come out with at least a point but we always feel we can beat the big teams when we come up against them. It will be tough, no doubt about it, but we are going there to try and win.

“It will be hard to keep a clean sheet but that’s what we will be looking to do and then get a goal at the other end. It is not going to be easy but we will be confident.”

"

Prediction: Arsenal 1, Everton 0
