Why Cam Newton Will One Day Reunite with Record-Setting Ball in Canton

Alex KayDec 6, 2011

Cam Newton is already building his shrine at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Carolina Panthers’ star saw the ball he scored his QB record-breaking 13th rushing touchdown with sent to Canton, Ohio on Sunday after a team official recovered it from the 16-year-old girl he gifted it to immediately after diving in the end zone.

Newton is poised to break a bunch of more records this year, and he’s already looking like a shoo-in Hall of Famer if his career continues on this path.

Let’s take a look at some records he could hold by the end of the 2011-2012 season.

Most Rushing Touchdowns by a Rookie - 18

Eric Dickerson, who is already enshrined in Canton, holds this record, and it would be incredible if Cam were able to break it. He has four games remaining to score five touchdowns, and it certainly isn’t outside the realm of possibility.

Most Passing Yards by a Rookie - 3,739

Surefire Hall of Famer Peyton Manning put up that number during his rookie year, and Newton is going to shatter it. He already has 3,297 yards and counting and averages almost 275 yards per game through the air.

Look at the body of work between the two players that hold those records. Newton is like an insane hybrid between an immensely tough All-Pro RB and a QB that has mastered his art.

Cam has revolutionized his position and once the Panthers start winning, he is a surefire lock to be enshrined, barring injury or some other crazy, unforeseen circumstance.

He is going to continue to break records because of his incredible ability to score the football in the red zone by running it and also showing immense zip and touch on his deep ball.

The Panthers are going to be back in the playoffs next year and Newton is going to be one of the most popular stars in the league because of his awesome style of play.

It’s going to continue like that for years and when he finally hangs up his boots, he will have a bust in the Hall.
