Greg Oden: Twitter Lights Up to Weigh in on Oden to Miami Heat Rumors

Kyle VassaloDec 4, 2011

Greg Oden is drawing interest from the Miami Heat, according to ESPN.

This pickup is nothing compared to their acquisitions a season ago, but the injury-prone big man just might be the low-risk, high-reward move that brings a championship to South Beach.

Naturally, the rumor has sparked the interest of the masses and Twitter is blowing up. Here are some of the most notable Tweets surrounding the prospect of landing the biggest man to hit Miami since Shaq.

The Score's Tas Melas questions why Oden would take a pay cut to play in Miami.

He's got a point. With the injuries Oden has sustained, will he feel comfortable taking less money to win? What if he falls victim to injury once more? That will be money he'll never see again, making this a risky move for Oden.

Greg Oden looked like he was around 40 when he came into the league as a rookie. Heat AP writer Tim Reynolds jokes about the targeted center's elderly look.

CBS Sports points out that Oden's injury will knock him out until at least January.

Considering that the season is picking up on Christmas day, this should be a non-factor. The Heat are bringing him in to win a championship, not to win a few games in the winter.

Update: Sunday, December 4th at 2:00 p.m. EST

Ethan Skolnick of the Palm Beach Post believes that if this Oden to Miami move is going to happen, it's going to happen sooner, rather than later.

Obviously the Heat are going to need to do their homework, as Oden is useless to them if he's on the bench. If he checks out, would Portland be willing to part ways with the No. 1 overall pick they wanted to build their franchise around?

Update: Sunday, December 4th at 1:55 p.m. EST

ESPN's Tom Haberstroh wrote an article on Oden-to-Miami last season. The lack of size hurt them dearly in the Finals, as Tyson Chandler and Dirk Nowitzki victimized their outmatched bigs.

Oden offers them an immediate upgrade and serious depth. This seemed like a good idea last season. It seems like a great idea now.

Update: Sunday, December 4th at 1:51 p.m. EST

CBS Sports' Bryan Fischer pokes fun at both LeBron James' ridiculous "decision" and Oden's inability to shake injuries that have plagued him since he got into the league.

Would Oden add depth to the Heat's frontcourt or soak up room on the bench and time in the training room, as he has in Portland?
