WWE Survivor Series 2011 Predictions: Why Alberto Del Rio Will Come Up Short
It’s unfortunate that Alberto Del Rio has been a bust, but that’s exactly what he’s been. And if you think he’s winning at Survivor Series, you are sorely mistaken.
In order to arrive at this place, the place where Del Rio loses his strap, you have to think beyond the ring and past the TV programs and into the bigger picture and that bigger picture doesn’t have Del Rio.
Del Rio, as much as he’s got a decent look, and he’s not terrible on the mic, or in the ring, was the classic case of a SmackDown superstar. He was good on that show and in that afterthought of a program(no offense to those legit superstars who have been staples on SmackDown), but at the end of the day, he’s been nothing more than a bust on Raw. He’s gotten cheap victories, he’s help no heat with Cena and the WWE creative have done their best to bury him whenever possible.

So the question becomes: What's the incentive to keep the strap with him?
With the Royal Rumble just two months away, and the biggest event of the year, WrestleMania, four months away, the creative has to be thinking ways to boom ticket sales.
Alberto Del Rio with the strap? Not one of them.
Giving CM Punk the strap? Possibility.
At the end of the day, the WWE knows that while CM Punk has failed to really move the needle since the WWE’s summer romance with him; he could still be valuable in the right setting. Feuding with Triple H or Kevin Nash or forming a new faction, could all be ways to spike interest heading into the biggest season in the company’s year. CM Punk has a bigger upside with the belt.
It seems clear that Cena will not carry the belt into WrestleMania, but it's clear that CM Punk needs one last big push to find out just how much money he can do.
That spells doom for Del Rio, and it will begin this Sunday.
