Michael Vick Injury: Vick's Latest Injury Scare Nothing to Worry About

Zachary D. RymerOct 16, 2011

At this point, it's almost a given that Michael Vick is going to have at least one injury scare per week. The only question is how serious each of these issues are.

Naturally, Vick did have an injury scare today. He and the Philadelphia Eagles were taking on the Washington Redskins, and Vick hit the deck hard at the end of a scramble in the third quarter. Replays revealed that he had taken a hit to the back of his head from a defender's helmet.

Vick got up from the hit, dawdled for a few moments, and then made his way over to the sideline. Nothing Eagles fans haven't seen before, for good or ill.

The initial scare was that Vick had suffered yet another concussion. But as it turned out, he was out of the game just long enough to watch Vince Young throw an interception on his one and only passing attempt. As soon as the Eagles were back on offense, Vick was back in the game.

So what exactly happened to Vick? From the sound of things, not much.

At the time Vick returned to the game, FOX reported (via Pro Football Talk) that Vick wasn't hurt at all:

After the game ended with the Eagles winning 20-13, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Eagles head coach Andy Reid said Vick suffered the most minor of football injuries:

So all things considered, it sounds like there's nothing to be worried about here. Vick may be injury-prone, but today's incident is nothing to get up in arms about.

I know, I know. Kind of a letdown, huh? After all, we may be used to Vick getting hurt, but we're probably more used to people freaking out about his injuries. Every time Vick gets hurt, you would think America was facing a national security crisis.

Not this time. While it was surprising that Vick was back out on the field so quickly, taking him out of the game in the first place was clearly a precaution. If you watch the video (to your right), Vick wasn't the one waving for the Eagles' trainers. In fact, he was smiling and shaking his head when they came out to retrieve him.

If you want, you can worry that the Eagles didn't bother giving Vick a full array of concussion tests. But given the way things unfolded, it must have been self-evident that he didn't have one. Rest assured, the Eagles were not about to send their $100 million man back out there unless they were 100 percent positive that he was OK.

Apparently, all they had to do was wipe some dirt out of Vick's eyes and wait for his breath to come back to him. Crisis averted.
