7 Things Wolves Fans Are Missing During Two-Week NBA Cancellation

Collin KottkeOct 10, 2011

David Stern cancelled the first two weeks of the NBA season on Monday, which is not good for an exciting Timberwolves team. The state of Minnesota is on a basketball high after the Lynx won the WNBA Championship last week, and now fans will have to wait two additional weeks for more professional basketball.

But what are we actually missing with the delay of the NBA season?

Major Debuts

1 of 7

It’s been a long time since the debut of any T-Wolves player has been highly anticipated, but this year there are three: Ricky Rubio, Derrick Williams and Rick Adelman.

The Wolves finally got their flashy point guard, a big-name rookie and an actual coach. Now Wolves fans must wait longer to see them in action.

Favorable Games

2 of 7

Six games were affected by this cancellation for the Wolves (Atlanta, at Philadelphia, Toronto, Phoenix, Sacramento, at New Jersey), some of which are very winnable for Minnesota.

Toronto and Sacramento are as bad as the Wolves. Plus, no matter what, games against Phoenix are always close.

This cancellation takes away a possibility of a nice running start with the Wolves. The season as it would start now results in the Wolves playing San Antonio and Memphis right away.

Lost Homestand

3 of 7

The Wolves aren't a money-making machine and a lost homestand isn't good for Glen Taylor, especially when it’s a very winnable homestand.

I dare say it’s possible that the Wolves could sweep the homestand of Toronto, Phoenix and Sacramento.

Beasley's Wrist

4 of 7

This summer it was reported that Michael Beasley may have broken his wrist while playing in China, but we don’t know since teams can’t have contact with their players during the lockout.

When the NBA comes back, will Beasley be healthy? (He’s probably got a good excuse for medical marijuana now.)

Kahn and Adelman's Relationship

5 of 7

Both David Kahn and Rick Adelman say they have no beef with each other.

We’ll see.

It’s hard to believe that David Kahn doesn't even think that he may have just hired his replacement, but it’s also hard to believe some of his transactions. Once the ball starts bouncing again, it’ll be evident how Kahn and Adelman get along.

Kevin Love

6 of 7

The one bright spot for a Wolves team last year was Kevin Love. Wolves fans all want to see if he can still rebound after all that beach volleyball this offseason.

I'm a sucker for fundamental basketball. I want to see this man get a bunch of rebounds once again. I'm sure he will, but I’ll sure miss the real Mr. Double-Double during the two-week delay.

What Do the Wolves Have?

7 of 7

The Timberwolves are somewhere between the worst team in the NBA to a low-seeded playoff team, but no one knows how this team will mesh.

Is Adelman the right coach? Is Rubio a worthy point guard? Is Derrick Williams a beast? Will someone finally respect Darko? How many rebounds will Love end up with?

Those and so many more questions will be answered once and for all once they start actually playing ball. Until then, we’ll just hold on to the Lynx victory.
