Dallas Cowboys: 5 Possible Trade Partners for Tashard Choice
When Dallas Cowboys hit the Big Apple on Sunday night, one player may be auditioning for a starring role in another city.
Cowboys running back Tashard Choice has watched his name flash across many a message board and blog concerning trade and release rumors in recent weeks.
Choice injured his calf in training camp and not one but two running backs were in line to take his place: Phillip Tanner and Lonyae Miller. Miller was cut in the end but Tanner made the team. Choice’s position as the team’s second running back option is safe for the time being.
But on Sunday Tashard had best bring his A+ game, because he may well be looking for a new residence soon, should a trade materialize.
Let’s take a look at five possible trade partners for the incomparable Tashard Choice.
Seattle Seahawks
1 of 5The Hawks will not, I repeat, will not make the playoffs this season. Quarterback Tavaris Jackson, picked up this offseason, looks shaky at best and Seattle’s offense looks pretty inept. In the backfield is Marshawn Lynch, Justin Forsett, and Leon Washington.
Lynch had a pretty decent showing last season as he rushed for over 700 yards and six touchdowns. There was also that decent gambol of his against the Saints in the playoffs.
Choice will bring variety to their backfield and will give them a better chance at competing.
Dallas could possibly trade for draft picks if Seattle has any interest. This one is highly unlikely but to me it seems that Seattle could use the help.
Miami Dolphins
2 of 5The Dolphins have Reggie Bush, Daniel Thomas, Lex Hilliard, and Larry Johnson. Bush has never shown that he can assume a heavy workload, Johnson’s legs are finished, and nobody has ever heard of the remaining two.
That’s not an indictment on Hilliard or Thomas, but they are both unproven commodities.
Choice has demonstrated that he can handle a heavy workload, and he’s versatile out of the backfield.
Miami isn’t confident in their quarterback, Chad Henne, so adding Choice to the fold may help with the team’s offensive stability.
Nolan Carroll is a young cornerback entering his second year with Miami out of Maryland. If the Dolphins are willing to give him for Choice or a draft pick I say go for it.
Chicago Bears
3 of 5Why not add more players from the Cowboys, eh Chicago? One thing I know about the Bears is that Marion Barber will not give them the kind of production they're looking for.
He’ll be a decent back, but don’t expect large numbers out of him.
Matt Forte is a nice receiving back who has a maddening tendency to be inconsistent, and Kahlil Bell has yet to show anything.
I say go for Tashard if the Bears are serious about a run at a Super Bowl. NFL teams live by the running back by committee approach and one more talented runner in the backfield can’t hurt.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
4 of 5LeGarrette Blount is the top back in Bucland and that won’t change this season. He proved his worth last season and Tampa will feed him again in 2011.
But behind Bllunt is Kregg Lumpkin, a third year back out of Georgia who will prove to be an NFL journeyman. Earnest Graham is laboring in the land of fullbacks so Tampa should look to add an additional runner.
It’s not a dire situation for them so its probably not high on the priority list but Choice is starter quality.
The Bucs have a nice young defense with a few pieces in place that Jerry would like to pick at. But I think a draft pick for Choice would suffice in this case.
Arizona Cardinals
5 of 5The Cards have the best shot of winning the NFC West with the addition of quarterback Kevin Kolb (that gust of wind you felt was Larry Fitzgerald breathing a heavy sigh of relief that he's finally got another good quarterback to get him the ball.)
They have other issues but their road to the playoffs runs through Seattle, San Francisco, and St. Louis. Not exactly the most rigged road.
Coach Ken Wisenhunt has Beanie Wells penciled in as the starter, but adding Choice would give them another weapon in the backfield. Not to mention I’m a fan of Richard Marshall for Arizona I think that he would be a great trade partner for Choice.
Not likely to happen but it’s a thought.
