WWE: Draft That Would Shake Up the Rosters Rounds 1-9
The WWE rosters need a shake up. The RAW roster has an overload of (in my opinion) main event superstars, while the Smackdown one seems to be lacking.
COO Triple H has used a lot of cross promotion between the rosters since he took over, but the fact is if the rosters were more balanced then this would not be necessary because Smackdown would be able to hold its own without having to have ADR, R-Truth or John Morisson cross over and appear on both shows.
Having a complete new draft would not only change the rosters, but it would allow each superstar to see how valued they were. The higher up, you're drafted, the more important you are.
Here is how I would have the draft go down if it were to happen.
Note 1: Personally I don't care at all about the Divas division, so as far as I'm concerned, they can just all stay on RAW.
Note 2: The draft is from current WWE superstars currently listed on their website. The one exception to this is the Undertaker, since he rarely appears on TV anymore at this point in his career. For the purpose of this, we will put the Undertaker on the SmackDown roster.
Round 1 Pick 1- Raw Selects CM Punk
1 of 19Right now, CM Punk is the face of the WWE. In the new "attitude era," Punk has been able to generate a buzz about the WWE that has been lacking for a long time.
Heck, his shoot promo was what got me re-interested in pro wrestling. Raw will be able to continue the Triple H vs. CM Punk rivalry, and even if he isn't directly involved in the title picture, he will provide the biggest draw in the WWE.
Raw picks him up with the first pick.
Round 1 Pick 2- SmackDown Selects World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton
2 of 19With their first selection, SmackDown holds onto their champion, Randy Orton. Orton is already a nine-time world champion, and he's proven to get a huge reaction from the crowd whenever he appears, despite the negative connotations associated with him on the IWC.
SmackDown sees no reason to veer away from Orton, and he remains the face of the Friday night brand.
Round 2 Pick 3-Raw Selects John Cena
3 of 19With the third pick, Raw holds on to the former face of their franchise John Cena.
Despite what all of you may think of him, John Cena is the most popular superstar in the WWE and is an easy main eventer at every showing.
While I do believe it's time for Cena to step away from the title picture for a little bit so he can focus on The Rock, Cena should not be going anywhere except Monday nights.
Round 2 Pick 4-SmackDown Selects the Miz
4 of 19The most must see WWE Champion of all time comes in at No. 4 in this draft.
In my mind, The Miz is the best pure heel in the WWE, and he's second behind Punk for most charisma.
Although on Raw he is down the ladder of the title picture a little bit, on SmackDown he would be an instant World Title contender, and when Randy Orton's title reign came to a close, it would be The Miz taking the title from him.
Now that's awesome.
Round 3, Pick 5-Raw Selects WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio
5 of 19Raw holds on to its champion with the fifth pick as they snatch up the current WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio.
Although some may question the booking to make Del Rio champ, it is critical for them to now book him as a strong champion so he does not go the route of say..Jack Swagger and fall into the mid-card after his title reign ends.
Raw can develop feuds with Cena and Punk for ADR, but it is important he maintains the title for at least a little while.
Round 3, Pick 6-SmackDown Selects Christian
6 of 19Christian stays with SmackDown, as they pick him sixth overall.
Christian proved that he is of main event status recently with his long lengthy feud with Randy Orton for the World Title.
Christians role of being a whiny but crafty heel fits him well. Now that Miz is there to take the feud with Orton, Christian can work on other feuds with up and coming faces that will help build them up, while continuing to keep him relevant until he's ready to fight again for the World Title.
Round 4, Pick 7-Raw Selects Sheamus
7 of 19Raw picks up their first new superstar with the seventh pick, as they take Sheamus from SmackDown.
After a successful run as a heel, Sheamus is now a babyface who doesn't back down from a fight, which works well against ADR. I can see Sheamus being next in line after Cena for a WWE title match against Del Rio, while Cena concentrates on the Rock and CM Punk concentrates on Triple H and Kevin Nash.
Sheamus is a good fit on Raw because of his ability to change his personality when needed.
Round 4, Pick 8-SmackDown Selects Rey Mysterio
8 of 19Already having two credible heels in Miz and Christian, the blue brand needed another credible face to be in the title picture other than Randy Orton and the next logical man on the list is veteran Rey Mysterio Jr.
Mysterio is a multiple time world champion, but like the Miz on Raw, it would be difficult for him to get back into the title picture, but on SmackDown Mysterio would be one of the top faces on the program and would be sure to get a huge reaction whenever he wrestled.
Round 5, Pick 9-Raw Selects R-Truth
9 of 19Speaking of charisma, few in the WWE have more than that man R-Truth, who remains with Raw with the ninth selection.
Many were getting bored with Truth as a face so his turn to a delusional, charismatic heel was a brilliant idea by WWE creative.
Truth is at home both on the mic and in the ring, and he is always reliable to put in a pay-per-view level feud and even into the title picture when needed.
Round 5, Pick 10-SmackDown Selects Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes
10 of 19I'm a huge fan of Cody Rhodes. I think he plays his character well and has won me over in the ring. He is a very credible IC champ, and I hope he holds it for a long time.
Assuming they see the same thing I do, Rhodes gets picked a little earlier than expected with the No. 10 overall pick.
Rhodes could be not only a long time IC champ, but eventually make the jump to main event status.
In fact, Rhodes is my early (really early) pick to win this years Royal Rumble and get a title match at Wrestlemania.
For now, though, Rodes will work his way up the mid-card and defeat CREDIBLE face superstars (I'm looking at you Zeke) to build him up as a dominant champion on Smackdown.
Round 6, Pick 11 Raw Selects Wade Barett
11 of 19As we move on to Round 6, Raw picks up another credible, main event level heel in Wade Barrett.
Barrett is excellent on the mic as well as in the ring, and many in the IWC believe he will be a future world champion.
I could easily see Barrett starting a feud with face champion Punk or Cena at some point and have a shot at the WWE championship.
For now, Barett backs up Truth and Del Rio as the third biggest heel on Raw.
Round 6, Pick 12-SmackDown Selects John Morrison
12 of 19John Morisson jumps over to SmackDown to balance out the roster as he gets picked 12th overall in this mock draft.
On SmackDown, Morrison would be a much more credible Main Eventer without having to pass so many other superstars. With a face champion right now, I could see Morisson getting into a feud with Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental Championship, and since were making that belt more prestigious now, that's a good thing.
Round 7, Pick 13-Raw Selects Mark Henry
13 of 19Raw picks up the Worlds Strongest Man from SmackDown in this draft, taking him 13th overall.
Let's go ahead and assume Henry doesn't win the World Heavyweight Championship from Randy Orton, at Night of Champions. Honestly I'd be shocked if they made Orton lose the title so quickly.
After that, Henry is likely to go back down on the mid-card, getting into random feuds with people on SmackDown until they decide to build him back up again.
But on Raw, Henry could take a different approach, maybe the Tag Team Division would be a good step for the WSM. Or maybe he could go after the U.S title once Dolph Ziggler loses it.
I don't personally believe Henry is worthy enough of being in the main event, but it's excellently suited for the mid-card.
On Raw he could do just that, maintaining his monster heel image.
Round 7, Pick 14 SmackDown Selects-Money in the Bank Holder Daniel Bryan
14 of 19Many will be surprised to see Daniel Bryan drop this far down to No. 14.
Although I rate him ahead of Mark Henry, I wanted to ensure he remained on SmackDown, so that's why he fell to 14th overall.
Bryan is the current holder of the Money in the Bank briefcase and has stated he will cash it in at WrestleMania.
This very well might be true, but if Bryan is to be taken seriously for the WHC, he needs to get a better booking. Losing three times in a row on national TV is not the booking a future champion should receive.
Bryan is great in the ring but not good at all on the mic and will need to improve that before he cashes in his briefcase.
Round 8, Pick 15-Raw Selects United States Champion Dolph Ziggler
15 of 19Let me just say this to WWE creative. It is not okay to have a dark match for the United States Championship before a pay-per-view.
This is one of the four major belts out there right now, and people should be invested in the outcome. Take some time to develop a feud, give them enough air time, and give the match interesting stipulations—stop being lazy.
OK, rant over—now for the pick. Dolph Ziggler stays on Raw with the 15th overall pick. Ziggler has had a pretty descent run as the US Champ, and I think he should remain there for a while. But he needs to lose Vickie Gurrerro and wrestle on his own.
Round 8, Pick 16,- SmackDown Selects Kofi Kingston
16 of 19Always the bridesmaid, never the bride, would be a reasonable way to sum up Kofi Kingston's career in the WWE.
Although Kingston always gets a great pop from the crowd and his high flying in the ring is always fun to watch, however, he never has ascended past mid-card status.
Now back on SmackDown, Kingston would try and have a fresh start on friday nights. I see him as one of the contenders for the IC title against Rhodes, and I wouldn't rule out giving him a push for a WHC match if the time is right and there is a heel champion.
Round 9, Pick 17-Raw Selects Alex Riley
17 of 19Raw holds onto one of their prized up and comers with their ninth round pick, as they go with Alex Riley.
Riley has been getting a pretty good push lately, and it looked for a little while like he might actually get into the main event sooner than expected, but wisely the WWE didn't overpush him and are giving him time to develop before taking that next step.
Riley will continue to be in contention for the U.S Title and will eventually win it, paving his road to becoming WWE Champion a few years down the road.
Round 9, Pick 18-Smackdown Selects Sin Cara
18 of 19Sin Cara has had an up and down career since joining the WWE.
Many view him as a failure after his many botches, and now suspension from a drug test.
But I disagree with those people. Fans know it's not even the real Sin Cara wrestling right now, and he still gets a huge pop from the crowd. Remember the Sin Cara chants on SmackDown last night?
WWE has also shown a commitment to the character by getting him all the way to the final two in the 20 Many Battle Royal.
Now, Sin Cara can start off by being the next WWE Cruiserweight Champion, but more on that later.
End of Part 1.
19 of 19That's it for the first half, but I will do the second half and give some more future feud ideas in the next slide if people are interested.
Thanks for reading.
