Eli Who?: Bursting the Giants' Super Bowl Bubble

Ahhh....the Super Bowl. 

Another season of football is about to come to an end. As I consider past matchups over the years, I can't help but to reflect upon the pride and the glory each fan feels over seeing their team make it to that oh-so-special place of NFL greatness.

Every fan wants to see their team rise to the top. Every fan wants to have bragging rights.

Imagine Green Bay Packer fans....they can say that their team was the first team, and the second for that matter, to win the Super Bowl. 

Green Bay fans of the past, present and future have the right to wear something as ridiculous as a cheesehead due to the fact the foam block of cheddar symbolizes an instant association with the names Brett Favre, Bart Starr and the immortal Vince Lombardi.

How about 'dem Cowboys? Two words: America's Team. 

Want more? Try Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin.

That bright, blue star on that silver helmet is a symbol of success. Tom Landry, God rest his soul, is the proud papa one of the greatest franchises in sports history; and say what you will, but Jimmy Johnson will never be remembered as the coach of the Miami Dolphins. That honor belongs to Don Shula.

Speaking of the Dolphins, they've certainly had their moments of Super Bowl splendor. 

I could go on and on....there's Joe Montana the Magnificent, along with Jerry Rice and the phenomenon known as the San Francisco 49ers. The Denver Broncos have made many appearances with John Elway leading the orange and blue. 

And don't forget about the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Most recently, we've all witnessed history in the making with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, a near perfect team with a perfect, record-breaking regular season. 

The city has a championship baseball team and a presidential candidate who looks like a middle-aged Super Man. There's even a threat that the Old Men On the Block are planning a comeback.

I don't think I've ever read more buzz about the city of Boston since that tea party in 1773.

Buzz, people!  Buzz is great....WHEN IT MAKES SENSE! 

I have one question for anyone reading this that is a New York Giants fan and I want you to consider what I am asking very carefully...

Win or lose Super Bowl XLII, (and truthfully if the Giants win, I'll be further convinced that the NFL is a bookie's entertainment venue more so than it is an actual competitive sports league) do you, as a New York Giants fan, honestly want Little Mr. Oreo Cookie-Munching Eli Manning to be the guy you look back upon as you try to identify with the prestige of Super Bowl immortality?
