NFL Trade Rumors: Minnesota Vikings Are on the Verge of Landing Donovan McNabb

Tony SantorsaJun 7, 2018

The Minnesota Vikings may have found their short-term answer for their quarterback position with the potential addition of Donovan McNabb

ProFootballTalk is reporting that the Vikings and Washington Redskins have agreed to terms on a trade that would involve sending McNabb to the Vikes in return for 2012 sixth-round draft pick and a conditional sixth-round pick in 2013.

However, there's only one thing that's not allowing this deal go through, and it's McNabb's large contract.

The Redskins prematurely extended McNabb's contract to a six-year, $89.2 million deal back in November of last year, and it was definitely a mistake, as now it's blocking a potential trade.

It's clear that McNabb is no longer wanted in Washington and has no shot at starting a game ever again as a Redskin, so if he wants to remain a starter then he's going to have take a pay cut.

Assuming that the deal will be finalized sometime later this week, McNabb's disappointing time in Washington will conclude.

McNabb will leave Washington fans with a huge question of "what if?"

It's clear that McNabb never developed a strong relationship with head coach Mike Shanahan and likely never took a lot of time to learn the new offense that he was taking over.

McNabb tossed 14 touchdowns and was picked off 15 times last season for the 'Skins as he only played in 13 games.

If you ask me what McNabb deserves for a grade for performance in our national's capital, I'd give him an "I," as in incomplete.

McNabb will be turning 35 years old in November and should have a shot at becoming the Vikings' starting quarterback, assuming that the deal does go through.

I strongly believe there is something left in McNabb's tank, but it's not much. However, it is enough for him to be a somewhat of a bridge for rookie quarterback Christian Ponder.

By potentially acquiring McNabb, the Vikings will remain competitive while building for the future as Ponder is gaining some much-needed experience on the practice field.
