TNA: Impact Wrestling Slideshow Review for Thursday July 21, 2011

Ryan FryeJul 21, 2011

In the past, I've done many reviews of shows, feuds, careers and many other things. Tonight, I am going to do a slideshow review of the entire episode of iMPACT Wrestling on Spike TV tonight.

This is more experimental than anything for me, as show reviews are normally boring and uncreative.

That being said, tonight's edition of iMPACT promises to be a good one, as the professional wrestling scene as a whole has heated up quite a bit as of late.

Here is the preview for the show, via iMPACTWrestling.com:

- The maniacal Sting is once again the World Heavyweight Champion after defeating Mr. Anderson for the gold! What's next for Sting and his mission to annihilate Immortal? Don't miss it!

- The X Division Championship will be on the line as new titleholder Brian Kendrick defends against number-one contender Alex Shelley, who won the Ultimate X Match at Destination X.

- In the Bound For Glory Series, Rob Van Dam battles "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner

- In the Bound For Glory Series, it will be AJ Styles vs. Gunner vs. Matt Morgan vs. Samoa Joe in a Ladder Match

- Knockouts Title Match: Mickie James vs Velvet Sky

Segment One: Summary of Last Week, Immortal Confronts Sting & Angle

1 of 10

What I liked:

I tend to like the summaries from the previous weeks, as it just gives us a reminder, as long as it doesn't last too long. So, I was fine with the cold open to this week's episode.

Everybody seems to be split on the Joker Sting, but I like it. It's different for him, and allows a guy that has always been in a serious gimmick to show some personality.

What I disliked:

I don't like Sting as champion, and I don't like him facing Kurt Angle for the title.

I'd rather have had Mr. Anderson retain his title, and face Angle. This way we get Anderson vs. Angle, which has been done before, but I still think it's a better option than Angle against Sting.

Bully Ray has one ab? I maybe in the minority, but I can't stand this guy on the microphone.

Also, can we stop having Immortal telling them to stop the music? It's repetitive and dumb.

Segment Two: Scott Steiner vs. Rob Van Dam

2 of 10

What I liked:

I love the Bound For Glory Series, it's a cool idea. I believe it has the potential to bring us some great matches and storylines.

The kick to Steiner on the guardrail was a sweet spot. TNA has been producing lots of awesome moments as of late.

What I disliked:

Out of all the matchups that TNA could have chosen for the Bound For Glory Series, we get Scott Steiner against Rob Van Dam?

RVD is great in the ring, but his style doesn't mesh with Steiner's.

I can't stand Scott Steiner, I'm not even sure why he's in TNA.

Segment Three: Knockouts Promo Time, Mexican America Attacks

3 of 10

What I liked:

Mickie James isn't too great on the mic, but she isn't horrid, either. Most Divas or Knockouts are even worse.

Nice heel work by Angelina Love, she seems much more comfortable now than as a face.

It's good to finally see Velvet get a title shot, she's been the face of the Knockouts Division for a while. I wouldn't mind Sky take the title, and Mickie James turning heel (because she's never been one).

What I disliked:

Taz gets pretty annoying, he needs to stop acting like Jerry Lawler with Knockouts.

I hate Mexican America, can we end that crappy stable already?

Segment Four: Ladder Match Tease, Styles/Daniels

4 of 10

What I liked:

This looks great, but why is TNA giving it away on free television? It's easily a pay-per-view caliber match.

The Styles/Daniels part was interesting, I wouldn't mind a heel turn from Daniels, resulting in a feud.

What I disliked:

Matt Morgan is decent on the microphone, but he has a tendency to sound over scripted.

Gunner on the mic, on the other hand, is awful.

Segment Five: Parking Lot Brawl, Knockouts Tag

5 of 10

What I liked:

Pretty good match for the Knockouts, I must say.

Tessmacher and Tara are a random team, but at least TNA is doing something with them and not allowing them to waste away backstage.

Nice story continuation with Madison Rayne interfering in Tara's match.

New tag champions, anybody but Mexican America!

What I disliked:

Too much of the cell phone, brawl stuff, we've seen far too much of it used in a short period of time.

Pre-match attack by the faces? Umm, it isn't supposed to happen that way.

Earl Hebner needs to retire, he's way too old.

Segment Six: Ladder Match

6 of 10

What I liked:

The match was great, best of the show. I also have no issue with Matt Morgan winning.

What I disliked:

Nothing.

Segment Seven: EY/D'Lo Brown, Kendrick vs. Shelley

7 of 10

What I liked:

The match was awesome, what else could you expect between these two?

I don't have a problem with the dirty finish, because they are getting Austin Aries into a storyline.

What I disliked:

Eric Young's gimmick is awful. Really, he's not that funny.

Speaking of bad gimmicks, Brian Kendrick's doesn't work for me.

Segment Eight: Mexican America/Beer Money

8 of 10

What I liked:

Beer Money saved the segment; Robert Roode is a future star and I've been saying that for a while.

James Storm isn't too shabby, either, and I like the idea of a redneck feuding with a Mexican, it makes for a funny conversation.

What I disliked:

Mexican America is awful. Bad on the microphone, bad in the ring, the only good one out of the bunch is Sarita.

Segment Nine: Mickie James vs. Velvet Sky...Never Mind!

9 of 10

What I liked:

Sadly, I liked absolutely nothing in this segment.

What I disliked:

How many attacks have we had in this show? Enough already, Russo, let's give the crash booking a rest for a week.

And of course, we must insert two more knockouts. We don't have to have every Knockout on television every week.

Oh, here is No. 7 in Tracy Brooks, What a joke!

Main Event: Bully Ray & Mr. Anderson vs. Kurt Angle & Sting

10 of 10

What I liked:

Again, nothing. A weak last two segments to end the show.

What I disliked:

So-so match, these tag team main events are "watching paint dry" type of boring. TNA needs to do something fresh, rather than continue to recycle things.

Currently, iMPACT Wrestling is becoming stale once again.
