Strikeforce Diaz vs. Daley Results: What's Next for the Winners?
Well, after a big night of fights, (and a disappointment in the Mousasi-Jardine fight) the fighters will have to move on.
For the winners, they'll be moving up the ranks, or defending their titles.
For the losers, they'll be dropping back down the ranks, hoping to build themselves back up again.
Here's what's next for the winners from Saturday night's main card.
Honorable Mention: Gegard Mousasi
1 of 4
Gegard Mousasi (30-3-2) fought to a majority draw with Keith Jardine.
I would have scored it a draw, too, due to the point deduction.
But we all know Mousasi won.
Shinya Aoki
2 of 4
Shinya Aoki (27-5 [1 NC]) needed only 93 seconds to tap out Lyle Beerbohm. That's pretty impressive.
Since Aoki's loss to Melendez, he has won four straight with three submissions.
I think he has earned himself another shot at Strikeforce gold.
Gilbert Melendez
3 of 4
Melendez (19-2) absolutely massacred Tatsuya Kawajiri.
I thought the fight should have been stopped nearly 30 seconds before it did, but Melendez just continued to pound on him.
As I said before, I think Melendez and Aoki will have a rematch, but I'd rather see them merge UFC and Strikeforce and have him fight the winner of Edgar-Maynard...or the winner of that against the winner of Guida-Pettis.
Wow, the lightweight division is stacked.
Nick Diaz
4 of 4
Nick Diaz (25-7 [1 NC]) did exactly what he said. He beat Paul Daley at his own game.
He can now be called the most dominant champion in Strikeforce history.
I really have no idea who's left for Diaz to fight. Tyron Woodley, maybe? He has beaten every viable contender in the welterweight division of Strikeforce.
Maybe they really should merge UFC and Strikeforce.
