Terrell Owens Denies Tony Romo Talk, Skewers Me-shawn

After a report broke yesterday about star receiver Terrell Owens having a conversation about the offense with quarterback Tony Romo, Owens is calling shenanigans.   Fox Sports is reporting that T.O. denied any such claims on his weekly radio program on KLLI-FM in Dallas. Owens said he never had a conversation with Romo about his role in the offense after the 26-24 loss to the Cowboys’ division rival.

In addition, Owens said his postgame comments about needing to be involved more were uttered in the heat of the moment after the game.

“It’s a matter of being frustrated with the loss,” Owens said according to the Star-Telegram in Fort Worth. “It had nothing to do with the offense.”

Owens caught only two passes in six quarters before making seven receptions for 71 yards against the Redskins on Sunday. Critics reacting to Owens’ frustration pointed out that the Cowboys threw in his direction 18 times against Washington. Owens said the numbers were misleading.

“That is not to say nothing about Tony Romo,” Owens said. “I am not going to be able to catch every ball thrown my way. Every pass was not a valid catchable pass.”

Owens repeated his desire to be a big part of the offense.

“All I have said is I need more opportunities to help this team win,” he said. “It’s me being confident in who I am. It’s not going to be the last time you hear me say I need the ball.”

Fair enough. I want T.O. wanting the ball. I want T.O. mad after a loss. This whole thing feels like the media was trying to make something out of nothing with T.O. and the Cowboys, which is understandable. The Cowboys have a huge following and there are plenty of people who hate the Cowboys, so almost everybody that follows the NFL would have some kind of interest in this story. I’m glad that T.O. set things right on his radio show.

But after setting the media straight, Owens picked on one media member in particular: former Cowboy and ESPN commentator Keyshawn Johnson.

“He is the ultimate underachiever on that panel,” Owens said of Johnson. “I am the reason he is in the booth. Everybody is aware when I was brought to Dallas he was the one they let go to get me here.”

I love it. I’m already looking forward to the next NFL Countdown on Sunday. I bet Keyshawn doesn’t touch this one.
