NFL Rumors: Head Coaching Carousel
What are Pete Carroll's summer plans—entertain head coaching offers or go scouting for his beloved Trojans?
And what about Brian
Schottenheimer—is he coming out of New York to follow in his father's footsteps as a head coach?
Let's take a look at all teams currently without a leading man as we make sense of the NFL's Coaching Carousel...
Atlanta Falcons
The chances of Pete Carroll and the Falcon's ownership actually meeting are very minute, but there's still the possibility that Carroll will abandon his Trojans to return to the NFL.
While Carroll is obviously the top name on the Falcons wish list, others still remain as the most likely targets. Rex Ryan is a popular name among players, but management seems to like Jason Garrett and Tony Sparano of the Cowboys.
Other candidates include Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, and Indianapolis assistant head coach Jim Caldwell.
Baltimore Ravens
Brian Schottenheimer spent a few hours in interviews on Monday with Ravens management, becoming No. 5 on their list.
Garrett and Sparano of Dallas have also expressed interest in Baltimore, as have Rex Ryan and Jim Caldwell.
The Baltimore Sun reports that Marty Schottenheimer has also been contacted, but says that unless there is the "right circumstance," he wouldn't consider coaching again.
Miami Dolphins
The early front-runner for the Miami job was Sparano, and it doesn't look like that's about to change.
However, Minnesota Viking's defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier has interviewed for the head coaching vacancy, as has Rex Ryan.
The Palm Beach Post suggests that the hiring of former Dallas QB coach David Lee indicates that Sparano will be the logical choice for Miami.
Washington Redskins
According to Yahoo Sports, Washington's assistant head coach and defensive coach Gregg Williams interviewed for the head coaching job yesterday.
Williams has four years of experience with Joe Gibbs, and most of the fan and player support for the vacancy.
Other options for the Redskins would be Sparano or Ron Meeks of the Colts—but, of course, they would have to wait until after the season before they could start the interview process.
