Fantasy Football NFL Week 13: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Advice

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballDec 5, 2010

Wondering who you should start and sit in Week 13 of the fantasy football season? Take a look at our recommended starts and sits to find out.

POTENTIAL QB SLEEPER PICK OF THE WEEK

Matt Hasselbeck (Seattle Seahawks) vs. Carolina

Hasselbeck threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns along with two interceptions against the Kansas City Chiefs last week, and has averaged over 300 passing yards per game over his last three contests.

The Seahawks have not been able to get their running game going, so he should continue to throw a lot against the Carolina Panthers in Week 13.

The Panthers have been stingy against opposing quarterbacks, allowing the fifth-fewest fantasy points to the position, but opposing offenses have found success on the ground and haven’t needed to pass the ball a lot necessarily.

That is clearly not the case for Seattle right now, so Hasselbeck makes for a solid start in two quarterback leagues due to the amount he will be throwing the ball.

POTENTIAL RB SLEEPER PICK OF THE WEEK

Jonathan Stewart (Carolina Panthers) at Seattle

Stewart returned to action in Week 12 against the Cleveland Browns after missing the previous couple games with a concussion, and had 12 carries for 98 yards.

He may move into a timeshare with Mike Goodson now with DeAngelo Williams (foot) out for the season, but it would not be too surprising to see him get more work than last week in a favorable matchup against the Seattle Seahawks this week.

Seattle has allowed over 100 rushing yards per game to opposing running backs and has allowed a touchdown to the position in seven straight games.  Goodson is likely to have a role as a pass catcher and change of pace back, which may limit Stewart’s fantasy potential, but he still makes for a solid flex option if you have a need this week.

QUARTERBACKS - SIT ‘EM

Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh Steelers) at Baltimore

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger does not have a favorable matchup this week. Sure the Baltimore Ravens are good on defense, after all they’re holding opposing quarterbacks to just 11.5 points per game and have held six quarterbacks to single digit fantasy points.

However, this also goes along with Roethlisberger’s foot injury, which the team calls a sprained foot but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said is actually a broken foot.

Without the mobility to move around and out of the pocket, as Roethlisberger would need to do against the Ravens, it’s going to be a bad week for the Pittsburgh quarterback.

RUNNING BACKS - SIT ‘EM

Brian Westbrook (San Francisco 49ers) at Green Bay

Brian Westbrook is back from the dead, or isn’t he?

The San Francisco 49ers running back got an opportunity with an injured Frank Gore to get some playing time in last week’s win over the Arizona Cardinals, and he rushed 23 times for 136 yards and one touchdown.

Immediately, fantasy owners looking to shore up their running back position tripped over themselves to trying to pick up Westbrook before anybody else in their league could. With Gore on injured reserve now with a hip injury, the door is open for Westbrook and Anthony Dixon.

Yet this week is not a good time to insert Westbrook into the starting lineup. Westbrook, who was very injury-prone as a Philadelphia Eagle, missed practice all week with an ankle injury. Plus, he’s playing the Green Bay Packers, who have only given up four rushing touchdowns all season and only one in their last four games.
