The New King of Kings: Sheamus Was the Right Man to Win King of the Ring

Ian MaloneNov 30, 2010

Last night's King of the Ring tournament wasn't really anything special. It was fun to see the tournament back after a few years off, but the matches were so-so and it lacked the feel that past tournaments had.

If anything, KOTR served an important purpose. It reestablished the Celtic Warrior.

A lot of people are upset that someone like Daniel Bryan, John Morrison or Alberto Del Rio weren't crowned king. I for one think that the King should almost always be a heel, or at least a tweener type character like Stone Cold back in the attitude era. Alberto Del Rio is up and coming but he's too green to be propelled into the main event picture.

John Morrison wouldn't really benefit from winning. He'd just go down in history as the most boring King of all time. Seriously, his mic work is atrocious.

Sheamus might be a two-time WWE champion but it hardly shows. He never had a clean defense against anyone who mattered. He may have beaten HHH at Extreme Rules, but the Celtic Warrior and his brogue kick are hardly known as the force that they are.

The past King, William Regal was great in his role. It is too bad that he failed a drug test for he could've potentially become a world champion. Aside from SPF 3,000, Sheamus isn't using any drugs (at least we think).

A feud with HHH is only fitting. The King of Kings vs. the King of the Ring. Sheamus might be established but this gives him a lot of credibility going into a feud with one of WWE's biggest superstars.

It makes sense that Sheamus would win since he has a built in feud with Triple H. Big Zeke and Drew McIntyre could've been logical choices, but which main eventers are they going to feud with? Ezekiel Jackson might look good but he's not ready either.

King of the Ring may not have been as eventful as tournaments past, but WWE booked the right winner—I know, strange right?

Long live the Celtic Warrior.
