Fantasy Football: Antonio Gates and the Last-Minute Injury Updates For Week 12

Chris FaigNov 27, 2010

This year in the NFL, there has been an abundance of injuries which have hurt fantasy owners all over.

In Week 12, there are some key players on your roster that may be playing through injury or even not playing at all.  Make sure to be conscientious when choosing your starters for the remaining games this week.

The following players are dealing with injuries that may keep them sidelined for Week 12.

RB Clinton Portis, Washington Redskins

Due to a torn muscle in his lower abdomen, Clinton Portis has been placed on injured reserve and will miss the rest of this season.

Portis will undergo surgery which will require at least two months of rehab, ending his season early for the second year in a row.  If Portis is on your roster be sure to cut him and pick up a running back from the waiver-wire such as Fred Jackson.

RB CJ Spiller, Buffalo Bills

C.J. Spiller injured his hamstring in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions, being forced to sit out of last week's game.  In Week 12, it will be a game-time decision for C.J. Spiller who told the Buffalo Bills' official website, "I've just got to see that my hamstring is fully strengthened and that I'm full speed and I can make the normal cuts."

Spiller has not been very productive his rookie season, so if he's on your roster you might as well play it safe and place him on the bench.

Colt McCoy has been sidelined with a high ankle sprain, which will give the Ex-Panther, Jake Delhomme, the start against Carolina this Sunday.

If for some reason you were starting Colt McCoy be sure to sit him this week, in a game he will be doing nothing more than spectating.

Brandon Marshall did not practice this entire week due to an injury to his hamstring suffered last week against the Chicago Bears.

He's listed as doubtful this weekend against the Oakland Raiders, so if you have a reliable back-up receiver, sit Marshall for the week.

Antonio Gates has sat out the last two games due to a torn plantar fascia in his right foot, and is listed as questionable for this Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts.

On Thursday, Gates practiced for the first time since October 29th but did limited work.  His participation led to severe discomfort and did not practice on Friday.

When asked Antonio Gates' injury, Norv Turner told The Associated Press that "It didn't get any worse.  He went through the walk-through.  It doesn't help him to go two days in a row, so we'll just see where he's at on Sunday.
