WWE Universe Should Not Worry About The Miz: After All, It's Only Temporary?

Bleacher ReportCorrespondent IINovember 24, 2010

This past Monday on Raw we witnessed history as The Miz was crowned the new WWE Champion. Miz is the 41st Champion to hold this “prestigious” championship since its inception in 1963. We have seen many great names such as Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant, Macho Man Randy Savage, The Rock, HBK, Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin and a host full of other worthy and established wrestlers.

However the hot topic this week is should we worry or be disgusted that the Miz is holding such an illustrious championship when he himself is not worth of its greatness. Sounds like your everyday unlikely hero movie, like the Miz has just pulled the sword out of the stone and now he must prove himself to the world that he is capable of carrying on his responsibilities.

I decided to look at whether we, the WWE Universe, should not care or prepare ourselves for one of the greatest WWE Championship reigns of all time.

Should we embrace The Miz?

Well we have already seen countless articles here on Bleacher Report ridiculing The Miz and the WWE for diminishing the WWE Championship. Even Kevin Nash (Diesel) has criticized the WWE for allowing the Miz to hold the championship:

"WWE told the world that there sh*t is a work with the Miz as champ."

However Jim Ross has praised the MTV superstar's title win on his website:

"I've been touting Miz for months on this site as a future big time player and one that I felt several months ago would be in the main event mix at Wrestlemania in Atlanta. Looks like that may well happen now. As for Miz being WWE Champion and specifically for all the naysayers, I suggest that you allow this matter to evolve more than just a few hours before damning it. Antagonist champions who are physically beatable on any given night and who have talented albeit annoying verbal skills are a nice persona traits for a successful champion to have."

On a personal note I think it was great to finally see a new WWE Champion, for years now it has continually been the likes of Cena, Orton and now and again Sheamus. With the likes of Batista, Jericho, HHH, HBK and others all gone from the title equation it was refreshing to see a new face hold the Gold, but the question is at what cost?

The Miz is not exactly renowned for his wrestling ability and his character/persona definitely does not scream out WWE Championship material.  I mean if the WWE thinks of Miz as a champion then they should have given the belt to the likes of Grand Master Sexay, MVP and a boat full of other talented superstars who can speak rather than wrestle.

In hindsight we should note that this is what the WWE is all about, this is what makes them stand out from all the other organizations in the world, the ability to create OMFG or OMG moments that can shake the very fabric of the WWE Universe as we know it. I have been a harsh critic of the WWE as of late, but after last night it was great seeing that even though they may look like they don’t have a clue about what they are doing.

They always end up with goods, even if it takes them 12 years (Kane). So I feel that given the current company and product we should not exactly embrace The Miz but we should see perhaps what the WWE has to offer, it could for all we know be one of the shortest reigns in history, or it could be one of the longest.

Why it will be Temporary?

HHH is due to make his triumphant return to the business:

If someone as big as HHH is set to make his return odds are that he will join RAW. It is obvious that he will get an immediate title shot.

Royal Rumble is just around the corner:

The winner will likely be the whole idea behind the Miz winning the title thus making Miz a transitional champion.

Title Unification:

I doubt they will give the Miz such an opportunity, however I feel that his current character is very similar to that of Chris Jericho when he won the Undisputed Championship, so who knows he may be the perfect candidate for this role.

Nexus and Wade:

Surely Nexus was not created so The Miz could win the WWE Championship, there has to be something more going on that we don’t know about, that is why it makes the situation that more interesting.

Raw GM still needs to be revealed:

It is very likely that whoever the new GM is, when he eventually shows up we will crown a new WWE Champion.

Randy Orton and Cena:

They live, breathe and sweat for the WWE Championship, therefore they will always be in the running for the title. With WrestleMania only 4 months away I doubt the WWE will have Miz defending the gold.

Why it will be one for the ages?

The Miz character is not exactly great:

He can’t exactly beat the likes of Orton, Cena and others cleanly therefore most of his matches will most likely end up with interference, DQ or plain and simple cheating. Could we be on the verge of another JBL like title run?

There is a chance of the Miz being a great face:

It is no lie that the Miz is great with the mic, he already has a small following of fans where ever he goes. If he can build on that the WWE may feel Miz being the champ is not the worst thing that could happen.

Wrestlemania will focus on Undertaker:

The forthcoming WrestleMania has completely focused on Taker, who he will face and who will end his streak. Like this year's event his match will most likely headline the extravaganza, therefore the Miz could defend the gold at the big one.

Winner of Rumble could be Christian:

If the WWE decides that Christian should be the winner of the Royal Rumble then odds are he will face Edge at WrestleMania for the gold, leaving the Miz to cheat his way to WrestleMania.

The sad thing about Miz winning the Title was the The Miz joined other great athletes such as Kane, HBK, Rock, HHH, Austin etc as a Triple Crown Champion.

Only time will tell us how great The Miz's title run will be, I for one hope it won't be too long but if it means Orton and Cena will win the championship, then I say keep it on the Miz.
