NFL Fantasy Football Week 5: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Advice

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballOct 9, 2010

POTENTIAL QB SLEEPER PICK OF THE WEEK

Kevin Kolb (Philadelphia Eagles) @ San Francisco

With Michael Vick (rib cartilage) out, Kolb gets a chance to start again this week against the San Francisco 49ers. Kolb went 22-of-35 for 201 yards with one touchdown and one interception after taking over for Vick in Week 4 against the Washington Redskins, and may be called on even more in Week 5.

With running back LeSean McCoy (ribs) expected to be limited, on Sunday the Eagles will be relying on their aerial attack more so than often.

The 49ers have allowed eight passing touchdowns so far this season, which is tied for second-most in the league, and they have allowed at least 250 passing yards in each of the past three games.  Expect Kolb to be throwing the ball this week as he gets a chance to prove to head coach Andy Reid and the Philadelphia fans that he shouldn’t have lost his starting gig in Week 3.

POTENTIAL RB SLEEPER PICK OF THE WEEK

Fred Jackson (Buffalo Bills) vs. Jacksonville

With Tuesday’s trade of Marshawn Lynch to the Seattle Seahawks, the Bills have named Jackson their starting running back ahead of rookie C.J. Spiller.  Jackson topped 1,000 rushing yards and had 46 receptions in 2009, so he has proven to be productive when given the opportunity.

Spiller will certainly get some opportunities due to his big play ability, yet Jackson should see the majority of the workload.  The Bills take on the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have allowed five rushing touchdowns to opposing running backs so far this season, in Week 5.

The Jaguars overall ranking against the run is solid, but they have just 34 rush attempts against by opposing running backs over the last two weeks.  Given the lack of explosiveness in the Bills’ offense as a whole, Jackson could be in line for 20-plus touches this week and makes for a nice bye week fill-in at minimum if you have a need this week.

POTENTIAL TE SLEEPER PICK OF THE WEEK

Kevin Boss (New York Giants) @ Houston You may have asked yourself upon reading the previous profile who has allowed the most fantasy points to tight ends over the first four weeks of the season? That would be the Houston Texans, who have surrendered the most catches (36) and by far the most yards (410) to tight ends thus far.  Boss draws the favorable matchup in Week 5. He only has five receptions so far this season, however, the Giants should be throwing the ball plenty against a poor Houston pass defense.

Even with linebacker Brian Cushing returning from suspension Boss is expected to play a big role in this football game. He might not necessarily put up a big catch total this week, but his potential for a touchdown makes him worthy of consideration as a bye week replacement.
