The Miami Dolphins, the newest chapter to the quarterback search.
The 1999 NFL season is over. Your team just lost 62-7 in the playoffs. The coach retires. The pro bowl quarterback retires. The team is left bewildered, out of place, embarassed, coachless and quarterbackless. Any guess on what team this is? A few more hints. In the next 8 years, the team will go through a number of quarterbacks per season and miss the playoffs for 7 of those 8 years. Many NFL followers might know this, but if you're a fan of the Miami Dolphins you will remember the past 8 years, unforuanetley very much.
Jay Fiedler. AJ Feely. Brian Griese. Sage Rosenfels. Cleo Lemon. Daunte Culpepper. Trent Green. Ray Lucas. Most of these quarterbacks are 2nd or even 3rd string backups to just about every team in the NFL, but for a short period of time they were the starting quarterback and the leaders of the Miami Dolphins. These quarterbacks were overthrown more often and faster than leaders in the French Revolution. Jay being the most long lasting for the latter part of the past 8 years leading the team to three playoff games, including a 27-0 loss to the Oakland Raiders and a 20-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He proved as mediocre and when was released in 2005.

Colts Release Kenny Moore

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Following a few more team rejects and releases, the Dolphins look like they finally caught the big one. The man who was to turn their team from the embarassment that they were to a team that can compete with the big time teams. The decision between Drew Brees who had a bad arm and Daunte Culpepper who had a bad leg was made. The Dolphins took Culpepper, Brees to the Saints. As we have seen Brees is doing pretty good in New Orleans, led his team to the playoffs last year and helped revitalize New Orleans. Culpepper now is scoring touchdowns as well......against the Dolphins. Any Dolphin fan held with their head in their hands remember Culpepper running a touchdown in as a Raider, looking at the Dolphin crowd, pointing to his knee and giving the a-ok sign. About a year before that Culpepper was injury prone sitting out due to recurring knee problems and in one of the sourest good byes was escorted off the Dolphins training camp field by security as the Dolphins looked to the newest QB of the future.....a 30 something quarterback from Kansas City.
The trade for Trent Green seemed promising at the time, a veteran quarterback, not too injury prone, a decent arm and someone you can somewhat rely on. It seemed ok for the Dolphins until a game against the Houston Texans. For a veteran quarterback, you would think he'd know better but apparently Green didn't realize he shouldn't be blocking 315 pound linemen. Green was knocked out cold and retired shortly after. Following him, one of the most memorable and dumbest draft moves happened the following year. Notre Dame standout Brady Quinn landed in the Miami Dolphins lap at the #9 pick, it seemed imminent the Dolphins were going to get a fresh, new, young quarterback, but it seemed too good to be true. With the #9 pick in the draft, the Dolphins select Ted Ginn Jr out of Ohio State, and so begins a round later the John Beck era if thats what you want to call it. A number of quarterbacks lead the Dolphins to their worst year in history at 1-15(0-16 if not for a lucky bomb to Greg Camarillo from Cleo Lemon.)
The year is 2008. A new quarterback has emerged. His name is Chad Pennington. And he is the new face of the Dolphins. With little power, but alot of accuracy Pennington will try to prove his leadership on the field for the NFL's punching bag. 9 quarterbacks later and here we are, let the newest era begin.
