Fantasy Football Week 3: Players To Keep On Your Bench

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballSep 24, 2010

No week in the NFL is boring, but there are some that are less interesting than others and Week 3 qualifies as one of those.

There aren’t that many divisional matchups and only one gamethe Pittsburgh Steelers at the Tampa Bay Buccaneersfeatures a pair of 2-0 teams.

In the fantasy football world it is a different story. This week is exciting because it’s the last one before bye weeks commence and there are a lot of questions that still need to be answered.

Are there any good quarterbacks in the AFC North?

What’s going on with Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles? Is there any way the Atlanta Falcons beat the New Orleans Saints? Not surprisingly, some players from the aforementioned teams find themselves on the Fantasy Football Week 3 - Sit ‘Em list.

Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens) vs. Cleveland

With all the offseason acquisitions the Baltimore Ravens made to their offense, it was thought they’d be able to put up some points.

It was also thought that quarterback Joe Flacco, who’s now in his third year, would take the next step in his development with the addition of all those weapons.

So far, that hasn’t been the case.

Through two games, Flacco is completing 48.1 percent of his passes for 402 yards with one touchdown and five interceptions. Clearly, something is not right with the offense.

Though the Cleveland Browns do not feature an elite defense, this is not the week to gamble on Flacco turning things around, because the Browns do rank eighth in the league against the pass.

Cadillac Williams (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) vs. Pittsburgh With 49 carries in the first two weeks, Cadillac Williams is clearly the main rushing option for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It’s unfortunate, however, that he’s averaging just 2.6 yards per carry and has no touchdowns.

For all the injury woes he’s been through, it’s good to see Williams back and running the ball often.

However, that doesn’t mean he deserves a spot in your starting lineup especially this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh is allowing just 52 rushing yards a game and 10 points a game coming in to Tampa Bay.

Steve Smith (New York Giants) vs. Tennessee

After two weeks, New York Giants wide receiver Steve Smith doesn’t look like the guy who caught 107 passes last year.

He has just nine catches for 78 yards and no touchdowns, whereas at this point last year he had 16 catches for 214 yards and a touchdown.

Not only is he off to an average start but this week he’s going against the Tennessee Titans.

The Titans have a good defense, but are exceptional at defending the pass, as they rank first in the NFL in passing yards allowed.

Smith will turn it around this season, just don’t expect it to start this week.
