But whatever you do, don't give the NFL MVP to Tom Brady.
Why?
Imagine the NFL season were a marathon—say, the Boston Marathon. You're running. You take off at the starting gun like everybody else. But then you notice that the runner next to you has hurried over to the side of the road.
A cab pulls up and the cabbie, a guy named, oh, I don’t know, Bill, opens the door. That other runner jumps inside the cab, and off they go down the road ahead of the pack, following the race course.
Some four or five miles later, racing officials pull the cab over, slap the driver on the wrist, and tell him he's in big trouble next year.
Then they make the runner jump out of the cab and resume the race.
But by now, said runner is miles ahead of the runners who followed the rules. So of course he wins the race—all thanks to the unfair lift from his buddy Bill.
How would you feel if this happened to you? Would you call it a just outcome?
Of course not! It's blatant cheating.
And so are New England’s deliberate and flagrant spying violations, of which they already stand convicted of by the NFL.
The rub, obviously, is that Brady—an individual who benefited from the illegal actions of his superiors—can't be league MVP. It's ridiculous. There can be no good fruit from a poison tree.
Yes, I’m a Packers fan...but I don’t need Bret Favre to win the MVP this year. This isn’t about that. Favre’s place in Canton is secure. His performance to date is good enough for him to go out on his terms, in a blaze of gunslinging glory.
But every time Favre actually did win the NFL MVP, he deserved it.
Favre never got his stats padded by rigging cameras in the opposing team’s locker room, or by hacking into their defensive coordinator’s computer. The same goes for every other player who's ever won the award—New England Patriots excepted.
If Tom Brady wins the league’s MVP this year, who wins it next year? A guy from a team that starts paying off opposing players for game plan information? How about a guy from a team that plants a mole?
In handing Brady the trophy, the NFL would effectively reward cheating. That would be pretty hard to square with Commissioner Roger Goodell's tough-guy persona.
If Brady gets the nod, Pete Rose should be get the next plaque in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
And then Brady should give his MVP trophy to Rose, because Rose’s violations were misdemeanors next to Bill Belichick’s egregious felonies.

...Just when I thought I'd heard it all...
So during Week 1 (and ONLY week 1) they got caught doing what every single other team in the NFL does (but so far haven't been caught). How do you explain the subsequent 13 weeks where nobody can stop Tom Brady? They don't have any frickin' cameras now, yet somehow they still use that tape of the Jets shot at the start of the season to destroy opponents? Does that film have some sort of magical powers or something?
Why can't anybody admit that this team is just plain good? I assure you that if your boyfriend Favre was in the midst of an undefeated season everybody on earth outside Wisconsin would find some equally IDIOTIC reason why he should executed via public hanging. People hate success. Actually David, they were caught cheating against several other teams and had a camera man asked to leave the stadium in where else but historic lambeau Field. So it was not the first time, and not all coaches and personel have or are doing what the Pats were. I am pretty sure that makes them nothing more than a bunch of cheats and if i ever see Bill BeleCHEAT in person i am going to throw a video camera at him and not one of these new fancy little video cameras, no I am talking one of those really old big and bulky VHS Cameras that have a huge external battery...oh yeah Billy boy your getting the camera to the face and the battery pack to the family jewels!!!

Agree with anonymous above. You can give the MVP to Romo or Favre because they may have less reosurces and have done well on teams that are less dominant, but I'm not discounting what Brady has done and his #s are clearly good enough to win him MVP. I'm a Raider fan, so I dislike New England more than the next guy cause of the tuck rule game, but the Patriots don't score 35+ points per game because of cameras.

Yeah, Favre never violated league policy during his MVP runs. What that's? Admisson to pain-killer addiction through 95? Yeah, but it only became public after the 95 season was over, and he never got another MVP after that. What's that? Two more in 96 and 97?
Let's be real. I like Favre. I wouldn't take any of his MVPs away from him (maybe 97, because Sanders killed it that year). But he's never had a season like Brady is having, and his cheating was far more grotesque. Would you have denied Terrell Davis because his team deliberately and covertly violated salary cap rules? No, because you couldn't deny his historic performance, and he was not responsible for the actions of his coaches and employers.
Does video-tape he isn't even watching make Brady throw the ball in a shoe-box every toss? Does it help him side-step a blitz? Does it help him run for a first down? Does it suddenly give him the power to huck a ball 65 yards with perfect accuracy? If you think about how football works for two seconds, you'll realize how insignificant the taping is, and how little it has to do with what makes Brady MVP. Especially relative to Favre's indiscretions.

To say they are guilty of "cheating" is ridiculous.
The rules say only that you cannot videotape another team in that team's 'designated area' - intended to make it against the rules for teams to place hidden cameras and that sort of equipment in places like the other team's locker room.
If the Patriots employee had been recording the signals with a pen and notepad, it would have been fine.
If the Patriots employee was 20 feet away from where he was, video taping from the front row of the stands, it would have been fine.
There is no rule that says you cannot videotape another teams signals. You just can't in specific areas. That is why it was called a "mis-interpretation of the rules".
All teams record signals: Ever wonder why every coach and offense coordinator is covering their face with a clip board as they speak into the headset?
The player having the best season at his position in the history of the game certainly deserves the MVP.

Hey PackSmack...I love Favre and am amazed by Romo, but Brady and/or Moss will be MVP. As a Giants fan, I have seen up close way too much of Favre and Romo this season, and will be treated to the Brady-Moss pitch-and-catch routine in a few weeks, so I can speak for all.
This Spygate nonsense has no bearing on the mano-a-mano manner of dominance the Patriots have shown this year. Moss is triple covered sometimes and still scores.
I look at it this way. If Favre went down to an injury (I know - that can't happen, right?), but if he did, Aaron Rodgers could conceivably step in and run the Packer offense at the same level.
The Cowboys would be 8-8 without Romo. If you don't think so, watch the game films. The guy has made plays where plays could not have been made.
The Patriots would be nowhere without Brady. That includes Moss.....

Yeah, Brady is having a great season, but the MVP isn't really all about stats, it's about the importance they play on their team. Now you put Favre on the Pats and he would have the same stats, if not better than Brady has this year. Also, what is Brady without Moss, and Romo without T.O., Favre has had no great wideout to throw to.

I am a Packer fan and I DO NOT hate the Patriots. Both teams are having STELLAR seasons. I could careless about the videotape thing. You are dead wrong about Narctotics. They are not a banned substance off the field. Take just one of any Narcotic Drugs during an NFL Game and you will be suspended and fined or more.! The rule states that no players can use a mind altering drug and that is exactly how Narcotic Pain Drugs work! They change the way you think about your pain and you can do a whole lot more taking them than without them. Brett Favre didn't just go off the field at the half and get a shot of freezing in his joints etc.,to numb the nerves,,he got Narcotics instead and came back in the games like superman....You figure it out ??? I know he was stoned and so did his teamates in the 90's just look at some of the replays of him ,,look real close..!
