St. Pierre, Lesnar Cruise to Wins to Headline UFC Seek and Destroy Results

Josh NasonAug 10, 2008

Georges St. Pierre retained his Welterweight gold and Brock Lesnar quieted the critics for at least one night as the UFC made its debut in Minneapolis, MN, Saturday night with a great Seek and Destroy card.

GSP defeated Jon Fitch in the latter's first ever title shot, while Lesnar dominated Heath Herring for his first UFC win. The undercard was well-stocked as well as Kenny Florian and Roger Huerta did battle, along with some other up-and-coming fighters. For the results and breakdown of one of the game's best nights of the year, keep on reading!

>Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre def. Jon Fitch by unan decision: One of the most anticipated matches of the year, GSP threw his hat in the ring for best pound-for-pound fighter in the world with this win. Fitch was game, but was just over-matched by GSP, who put on a clinic in every aspect of the game in battering Fitch. If you haven't seen it, the third round truly sums up GSP's dominance and Fitch's heart. Following the fight, BJ Penn challenged GSP to a match which was accepted. That will be a GREAT one to see.

> Brock Lesnar def. Heath Herring by unan. decision: This was all Lesnar who literally was on top of Herring the entire fight. Starting out with a power right hand that spiraled Herring backward, Lesnar was relentless in getting a unanimous decision win over Herring. The Minnesota crowd went crazy for Lesnar all night long. It'll be intriguing to see who they put Lesnar in with next so we can truly see what level he is at.

>Kenny Florian def. Roger Huerta by unan decision: Great fight! This was about as evenly matched a bout as you'll ever get. Florian looked awesome in handing Huerta his first UFC loss. Florian wasn't dominant, but was just that much better in everything he did whether it was kicks, ground game or those vicious patented elbows. When is he going to get a title shot?

>Rob Emerson def. Manny Gamburyan via knockout at 4:49 of the first round: Holy sh*t...11 seconds?!? Emerson landed a direct punch that flattened Gamburyan and just like that, it was done.

>Cheick Kongo def. Dan Evensen via ref stoppage in the first round: Ehh...this was ok. Kongo caught Evensen with a punch late in the round and hit enough unanswered blows that the ref stopped it.

>Demian Maia def. Jason McDonald via choke out in the third round: Good fight...great submission vs. escape in the first round...Maia finally got McDonald where he wanted him despite McDonald's corner pleading with him to not go to the ground for the final round.
