Arsene Wenger seems to have set his sights on Udinese's Swiss midfielder, Gokhan Inler. The midfielder looks set to replace Mathieu Flamini and could well partner Cesc Fabregas in the centre of midfield come this season.

I had previously written in one of my articles that Inler was a possible signing, but rumours seem to be intensifying that the Udinese hard-man may be on his way to Arsenal.

Inler was first wanted by Inter Milan prior to the appointment of Jose Mourinho by his predecessor, Roberto Mancini. After his sacking, Liverpool seemed to show an interest but interest from their side also cooled during the summer.

Kevin Keegan, then stepped in and looked to complete the signing of Inler with negotiations having reached an advanced stage but now Arsene Wenger has thrown his hat in to sign the midfielder after meeting his release clause said to be around £5m pounds.

Inler was one of the few Swiss players to impress during Euro 2008 and could be the typical Wenger signing. He isn't all that well-known, he's available for a cheap price and he is only 21 years old.

Here are his statistics:

Years      Club/Team     App (Goals)

2004-05   FC Basel            0 (0)

2005-06   FC Aarau          25 (3)

2006-07   FC Zurich          52 (3)

2007-      Udinese            32 (2)

2008-     Switzerland        15 (1)

==========================

Total                            124 (9)

So, what do you think? Is Inler a good enough replacement for Mathieu Flamini?
