Arsenal FC Hit by Injury Jinx Again

Stephen BradleyJul 6, 2010

Afternoon all. Since nearly all of our players have now ended their dalliances with the World Cup, was it too much to expect that they'd all come back fit and healthy?

Apparently so, if today's comments from Nicklas Bendtner are anything to go by. It looks like the groin injury that plagued him throughout last season has failed to heal up while he was on holiday. The full article can be read HERE , but it's certainly not good reading for any Arsenal fans.

So with Nicky crocked, Robin Van Persie nursing a sore elbow, and Cesc Fabregas hurting his leg again in training this morning (See HERE ), it looks like we'll be at less than 100 percent for the start of the season. AGAIN.

I'm trying to remember when we last had our starting 11 and subs all fit and ready to go for the start of a season, and, to be honest, I can't think of a time when that's happened.

At some point we have to start figuring out why we always have at least three players out with long-term injuries. Yes, we've been desperately unlucky in the way we've lost Abou Diaby, Eduardo and Aaron Ramsey to awful challenges.

But too many Arsenal players are always picking up little nagging injuries like groin strains or calf muscle pulls. As soon as someone like Tomas Rosicky or Theo Walcott or Andrei Arshavin starts to come into good form, news will come that he's pulled a muscle. Arsene Wenger will then claim that said player is out for just 2-3 weeks, but it usually ends up being 4-6 weeks.

For years this team has been praised for its ability to play at full tilt for 90 minutes. Is it possible though, that in order to maintain these extremely high levels of fitness, the players are just being pushed too hard? Can it be, that in trying to get the maximum out of his players, Wenger is actually doing more harm than good? Is it a coincidence that the one person who does the least running on the team, Alex Song, is the one who doesn't seem to get injured?

Now I'm sure that someone at Arsenal must be looking at ways to improve our injury record. Let's just hope that we can keep our players fit this season, because we can't afford to keep handicapping ourselves when the likes of Man City are adding players like David Silva and Yaya Toure to their squad. We will need as many hands on deck as possible this season if we want to have any hope of winning some silverware.

Until tomorrow readers.
