School: None (International)
After Yao Ming was selected the first overall pick in 2002, the NBA has since seen the following international players drafted in the top 20:
Andrea Bargnani, Fran Vazquez, Yaroslav Korolev, Andris Biedrins, Oleksiy Pecherov, Marco Belinelli, Darko Milicic, Mickael Pietrus, Zarko Cabarkapa, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Nickoloz Tskitishvilli, Nene Hilario, Bostjan Nachbar, Jiri Welsch, Saer Sene, Thabo Sefolosha, Yi Jianlian, and Danilo Gallinari.
In other words, a really good international player rarely comes along, and when he does he's usually the top pick.
Please forgive me for not thinking much of Montiejunas, but history has shown the vast majority of international players who come to the NBA achieve, at best, respect for being a quality, part-time role player.
The Rockets, who seem to need luck and a good doctor more so than anything else, should be vastly better next season with Yao's return. The fact they don't need much, allows them to take a stab at Montiejunas, who, after all, does pose much upside.
