Will the Sun Shine on Tim Sylvia?

Dorothy WillisJul 14, 2008

It has been said that every dog will have its day.

In my case, I have to wait until the very last day of the year and look back to figure out just what 'one' day out of the 365 it was.

Big Tim Sylvia has had more than a few bad days mixed in with his good ones, having held and also lost the Heavyweight Championship title on different occasions.

Surgeries on his knees and an arm broken during the heat of his battle with Frank Mir are just two of his most unfortunate 'bad days,' but even in these cases, Tim has shown his dedication to fighting in MMA and learning to persevere by recovering and jumping back into training with a vengeance.

His height, giant size, and huge reach make him a unique competitor who can hold an opponent like Jeff Monson at bay while imposing punishment at the same time in massive and humiliating proportions.

Where are Tim's weaknesses?

From my perspective, I see his size as making him ungainly and awkward at times where he may trip over himself in his hurry to dominate his opposition.

His size also works against him as far as the amount of weight that he is carrying around on his knees.

If I were advising a fighter on a game plan for defeating Tim, I would emphasize taking him out at his knees.  This is how you chop down a huge tree; by taking it out at the bottom.

Upon seeing Forrest working away at Rampage's legs, I was thinking, "This is how to take out Tim Sylvia."

Not many people, on this site especially, have given much credence to my advice or opinions on MMA, but here I think I've got them.  This is a solid plan.

So while Fedor may not read the Bleacher Report and may concentrate more on delivering big strikes to Tim's head, I would advise him to chip away at the other end and take away his base.

By bringing the taller man to his knees, so to speak, it will put his head within a better strike zone.

Being a completely unpredictable sport, this contest could end in many different ways.

In the end, your scenario has as great a chance as mine for the outcome of the big Affliction-Banned fight on July 19.

I hope you will be tuning in with me to see who the winner is and how he does it.

Just one more thing, "Will you pass me the popcorn please?"
