EDIT: Jared DeVries is expected back with the Detroit Lions tomorrow, 4/12/10

Jared DeVries will be back with the Detroit Lions next season according to his agent, Mark Bartlestein of Priority Sports.

He expects a deal "in the next couple of days."

DeVries, who will be 34 in June, missed the 2009 season with a torn Achilles tendon. He was cut by the Lions on Feb. 23, with the expressed desire to re-sign him.

DeVries received cursory interest from the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was thought that his connection with Aaron Kampman and Brad Meester, fellow natives of Iowa Falls and high school teammates, would grease the tires to a deal.

Bartlestein says his client is 100 percent healthy and working to get his conditioning back up to DeVries' own high standards. Known to Lions fans as a guy who gives his all on every play, DeVries returns as the type of player Jim Schwartz and Gunther Cunningham want to keep around.

In nine active seasons with the Lions, DeVries has played in 118 games with 185 tackles and 16.5 sacks.

If fully healthy, DeVries is expected to make the roster as a top backup, primarily in run-stopping situations.
