Donovan McNabb Trade Fallout: Why the Rams Could Pass on Sam Bradford
With one of the most fascinating, unpredictable offseasons in the history of the NFL still in full swing, it's worth debating whether or not the St. Louis Rams might pass up Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford in the draft.
The Rams released veteran quarterback Marc Bulger on Monday, clearing the way for an addition to the roster, but is it Bradford they were clearing the way for?
There's no deal in place for Bradford in the No. 1 slot, and you'd better believe Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell was on the phone with his agent two minutes after the Donovan McNabb trade, looking for his ticket out of town.

There's a lot of pressure on St. Louis to "get it right" with the first pick, and there is a very vocal group advocating the choice of Ndamukong Suh.
Acquiring Campbell would allow the Rams to use that pick for Suh and still fill that vacancy created by Bulger's dismissal.

The headache-inducing fallout of the Rams pulling such a move in the wake of the McNabb trade would be staggering. Once again, everyone's draft board would change as the order of the top 10 draftees would shift to accommodate the new reality.
Bradford could fall as far as Cleveland at No. 7, though it's likely one or two teams may try to leapfrog Cleveland to take Bradford, if Cleveland doesn't try to trade up to avoid such a maneuver.
There also could be attempts to trade up to grab some of the defensive talent such as Eric Berry and Gerald McCoy, who would be going at least one slot higher than previously predicted.
Plus, there's still Jimmy Clausen's situation, which is in flux now that McNabb is a Redskin. The only thing anyone is certain of is that nothing is certain anymore.
It's been a crazy offseason, and anything seems to be possible, so don't look for Bradford to be scouting real estate in the St. Louis area just yet.
