A Conundrum With The Eight Overall Pick For Oakland

The Oakland Raiders have three major areas of need which must be fulfilled by the time next season starts or next season will be a struggle. These are both lines and the linebackers.

Personally I'd love to see the Raiders draft Offensive Tackle Trent Williams with their first pick and immediately install him as their starting right tackle. However, it's very possible Trent Williams will be off of the board as will Russell Okung, and Bryan Bulaga if the Seahawks, Chiefs, and another team decides to take an offensive tackle before the Raiders pick. If these three tackles are gone, this leaves Bruce Campbell a major project or Anthony Smith as the best remaining offensive tackles.

If this is the case, what must the Raiders do with their 8th pick? Obviously trading down isn't an option. I'd love to see it happen but I've never seen it happen since I've been a Raiders fan, which coincidentally has been all my life since '74.

Taking either the best remaining offensive lineman ie Offensive Guard Mike Iupati or drafting potentially the next Richard Seymour in DE Derrick Morgan would be the most logical steps for the Raiders to take. Derrick Morgan is rock solid against the run and would be a high value pick for the Raiders to have. Mike Iupati would be a major upgrade over current Right Guard Cooper Carlisle. However, several people point out their are several stud guards who'll be available in the 2nd or 3rd rounds who would make that upgrade.

I've seen a lot of people say the Raiders should take MLB Rolando McClain with the 8th pick, but I'm really afraid of McClain turning into another Kirk Morrison. Yes he won the Butkus Award last season but several times you'll see how the award winners from college don't always translate that same play to the NFL. There's a list of busts from the past 10 years of Butkus Award winners and other winners. Rolando McClain disappeared too often on a great defense last year. I really hope Oakland doesn't take McClain and attempts to find someone else to take over that spot.

So if McClain's not an option, Trent Williams, Okung, and Bulaga or off the board, who should the Raiders pick with the 8th pick?

I'd suggest they take Mike Iupati, but I'm curious what you guys think? Let's not even consider trading down as an option because it's never happened.
