A major talking point prior to UFC 109 posed the question; is Randy Couture a top five light heavyweight? Though disposing of Mark Coleman with ease does not answer this question, the lack of upward movement at 205 pounds from fighters like Thiago Silva, Keith Jardine and Rich Franklin may place Couture in the UFC's top five light heavyweights by default.

Major divisional movement also took place at middleweight and welterweight. Chael Sonnen stormed past three other 185 pound contenders with his win over Nate Marquardt to move to number two. Brazilian Paulo Thiago is now 3-1 in the UFC with his submission of Mike Swick and has positioned himself into the top five of the UFC's 170 pound weight class.
