Next Oakland Raider Head Coach

With Tom Cable being the next guy to get the boot from Oakland owner Al Davis because of the lack of success this season, a familiar face might appear as the new Head Coach.

Rob Ryan reportedly wants the job if it becomes available and with the success of his father an now his brother as Head Coaches in the NFL, Al Davis might finally give him his opportunity.

Ryan might get the opportunity because of the lack of success Cable has had as Head Coach. Cable is 9-19 as the Raiders Coach.

Ryan had the most success as the defensive coordinator of the Raiders in 2006. The defense ranked 3rd in the league and only allowed 284 total yards per game.

Ryan has always loved the Raiders, but when Cable got the job over him Cable decided to go with John Marshall as the new defensive coordinator instead of Ryan. But with Cable on his way out, Ryan might have another chance.

First things first though. If Cable is fired, Al has other candidates who want the job as well. Last year newly fired NYG Offensive Coordinator Kevin Gilbride and UFL Head Coach Jim Fassel have had either interviews or letters sent to Al saying they want to be the Head Coach of the Raiders.

Ultimately I think Al will hire Rob Ryan as the Head Coach and hire Jim Fassel as the Offensive Coordinator. Jim has ties to the team, his son is currently the special teams coach.

Rob Ryan will like the new arrivals and improvements the Raiders made on the defensive side of the ball in his absence. The Raiders added Richard Seymour through a trade with New England, Greg Ellis through free agency, Matt Shaughnessy has become a very good young DE and Tyvon Branch had the most tackles for a safety in the NFL this year.

Pair this improvemnts with the incoming draft, Ryan will be able to control his side of the ball, but that isn't the problem with the Raiders.

The Raiders only had 17 touchdowns this season. With Gradkwoski as the starter they had more success but if Fassel comes in as the OC, might JP Losman become the starting QB?

Who is J.P. Losman? Losman and Fassel were paired together on the UFL Las Vegas Locomotives and with the west-coast offense Fassel runs they won the UFL Championship.

If/when Al fires Cable, the Raiders will have a familiar face in Rob Ryan as a very promising head coaching candidate.
