The list of former New England PatriotsĀ inĀ Kansas City had added another name as Romeo Crennel has been hired to become the Chiefs defensive coordinator.

For Crennel this is a homecoming as he is reuniting with his former staff in New England, the same staff that was a part of the three Super Bowls runs between 2002 and 2005.

Perhaps the greatest coaching staff ever assembled was in New England under Bill Belichick. However, at the end of the 2004 season, the greatest coaching staff was disassembled.

Charlie Weis left New EnglandĀ for the Notre Dame head coaching position only to be fired on Nov. 30, 2009, four years to the exact date when Notre Dame fired former head Tyrone Willingham.

On Jan. 8, Weis was named offensive coordinator at Kansas City under head coach Todd Haley, who Weis has coaching history with. They were both under the same coaching staff under Bill Parcells with the New York Jets.

Haley worked closely with Weis, Haley was the offensive assistant coach/quality control coach who worked closely with Weis who was the offensive coordinator. Weis accepted the same position at New England.

After the 2004 season, Crennel was named as head coach of the Cleveland Browns who had brief success in 2007 just failing short of making the playoffs despite a 10-6 record.

The 10-6 record earned Crennel a two-year contract but that contract didn’t mean anything as he was fired at the end of the 2008 season after the Browns finished a disappointing 4-12.

Romeo Crennel has been out of the league for over two years after being fired as head coach of the Cleveland Browns back on Dec. 29, 2008.

Crennel had also interviewed for the New York Giants for the defensive coordinator position, but Kansas City Chiefs snatched him.

Crennel also reunites with Scott Piolo who was the Vice President of Player Personnel when Crennel was with the Patroits, Piolo is now the General Manager of the Chiefs.

Please do not adjust your televisions next year when you see familiar faces in New England running the Kansas City Chiefs. It will be interesting to see if Weis and Crennel can turn things around in Kansas City, a team that hasn't been in the playoffs since the 2006 season.
