Philadelphia Eagles V. Dallas Cowboys Preview

Jamie BrownDec 31, 2009

Week 17, as an Eagles fan last year's week 17 was perhaps one of the most memorable of all time.

It seemed like all of the odds were against Philly's chances of making the playoffs, they needed about 4 teams to lose and a few to win, including themselves. I can remember being nervous the night before the game. There was no doubt Dallas was a good team...right?

Well, as the game progressed the score got more and more one-sided. The Eagles were up at the half, and that is when my television cut out.

I remember scrambling to find a ladder to adjust the dish on my roof, I remember not ever finding a ladder, and then I remember getting my buddy to boost me up so I was level with the eaves of the house and then I tried to grab onto the gutter.

That didn't work and I tumbled down onto a bush...the gutter followed soon after.

So I sat in silence. We had no computer at the time, and our car was at the mechanics.

This was a disaster.

Eventually I got in touch with a friend of my roommate, who happened to be a Cowboys fan. We begged him to come pick us up or bring a ladder or something. But he was in a bad mood, a really bad mood. He refused and hung up on me.

We were out of options. So we walked. We walked down to the corner store to see if the game was playing there. It wasn't. We went to our neighbor's house, they weren't necessarily fond of the loud music we played most Saturday and Sunday nights, so they didn't let us in either.

After all of this we were missing a gutter, had no TV, and we thought the Eagles were losing. We also had no idea if Philly had been helped by the Raiders and all the other teams they needed to win in order to make the playoffs. This day was just appalling.

Within the next hour the TV was back, and to our surprise the Eagles were in. The score was 44-6, and we were the happiest people for miles. We played loud music that night as well, not only to celebrate a ticket to the playoffs, but also because we were jackasses and wanted to make the neighbors angry.

Overall, the day was great. And we now knew why that Cowboys fan was so edgy when we tried to ask him for a favor.

Good times.

This year it is a bit different, but the Eagles still need to win to grasp the number two seed in the NFC.

Right now Dallas is on a roll, they have a few big wins under their over-sized typical Texan belts and they are confident.
