Insight Bowl

Insight Enterprises Inc. has donated 750 game tickets for the Insight Bowl to the Veteran Tickets Foundation. The foundation allows U.S. military veterans to attend games for free or cheap. Additional tickets to the Boys & Girls Club of the East Valley, Tempe Family YMCA, and the Tempe Community Council.

Iowa State has sold about 8000 of their 10,500 tickets so far. Minnesota has sold around 1000. 

Both teams have a travelling budget of around $1.3 million for this bowl game.

Iowa State suspended starting cornerback Kennard Banks (senior) for violating a team rule. Tim Brewster dismissed reserve safety Tim Dandridge (sophomore) for a similar rule violation.

Golden Gophers Ryan Orton (sophomore) and Ryan Grant (freshman), face former Eden Prairie teammate Carter Bykowski (sophomore), in the Insight Bowl.

Tubby Smith has offered a scholarship to Hopkins High School's Joe Coleman, who is younger brother of former Gopher Dan Coleman.  He also received a scholarship offer from Santa Clara.

Tyus Jones is 6'0" and 155-pound eight grader, averaging a double-double while starting for Apple Valley High School. He is being recruited by Tubby Smith.

Gophers Alexis Russell (senior) and Kristin Furukawa (junior), were named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Gophers Juniors Katie Bethke and Jennie Clark have been named All-Region by the NSCAA and Soccer America.

Former Gopher infielder, Rachelle Tveter was selected to the Austin High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Kay Sylva graduated earlier in December. She is a two-time Gopher Defensive Player of the Year, from last year's basketball squad.

U of M Volleyball recruit, Shakopee's Ashley Wittman is Gatorade's National Player of the Year.

A University of Minnesota study has found that goalies suffer the majority of their concussions in collisions with other players.
