'Last Chance U' Star John Franklin III Reportedly Signs Contract with Seahawks
From Netflix to the NFL, John Franklin III is getting a chance to pursue his dreams of playing football at the highest level.
Yes, that John Franklin III, one of the stars of the Last Chance U documentary series.
According to SB Nation's Alex Kirshner, the receiver will sign with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent after his name was not called during the 2018 NFL draft this weekend.
During his collegiate career, Franklin bounced around from Florida State to East Mississippi Community College to Auburn before ultimately landing at Florida Atlantic as a graduate transfer.
He started his career as a quarterback but transitioned to wideout before the 2017 season with the Tigers.
Playing for head coach Lane Kiffin last season, the 6'1", 186-pound receiver had seven catches for 95 yards and a touchdown as an Owl. He did, however, pile up 659 rushing yards, a 10.6 yards-per-carry average and four scores on the ground over two seasons between Auburn and Florida Atlantic.
As an undrafted free agent, Franklin faces long odds of making the 53-man roster. But as Jake Elman of the Palm Beach Post noted, the 23-year-old Netflix star allegedly ran a 4.19 40-yard dash. With that type of speed, it's worth taking a flier on.
