Cavaliers Rumors: Latest Buzz Surrounding Tyronn Lue's Potential Return
The Cleveland Cavaliers front office believes coach Tyronn Lue will return to the bench sooner rather than later, provided he gets sufficient rest, according to a report by ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
While the team remains optimistic, Windhorst also suggested that Cleveland have not put a timetable on Lue's return.
"What you don't want is Ty to come back, then have to leave again," Windhorst wrote. "I would much rather, if possible, to get him back to 100 percent."
Lue stepped away from coaching the Cavs to focus on his health earlier this week after considering the option for several weeks.
While there's no official word on the cause of his symptoms, he did disclose that he suffered from chest pains and loss of sleep in a statement on Cavs.com:
"After many conversations with our doctors and [general manager] Koby [Altman] and much thought given to what is best for the team and my health, I need to step back from coaching for the time being and focus on trying to establish a stronger and healthier foundation from which to coach for the rest of the season.
"I have had chest pains and other troubling symptoms, compounded by a loss of sleep, throughout the year. Despite a battery of tests, there have been no conclusions as to what the exact issue is."
When Lue's leave of absence was first announced, TNT's David Aldridge reported the plan was to have the third-year coach resume his duties by next week.
It is hoped he will return before the start of the NBA playoffs, which begin on April 14.
While he's sidelined, Lue hopes to reclaim his health through rest, medication, the use of a new personal chef and regular exercise.
"My goal is to come out of it a stronger and healthier version of myself so I can continue to lead this team to the Championship we are all working towards," Lue added.
In the meantime, assistant coach Larry Drew has assumed Lue's responsibilities.
In his second game at the helm, Cleveland rallied from a 79-64 deficit at the half to defeat the No. 1 ranked Toronto Raptors 132-129 behind LeBron James' incredible stat line of 35 points, 17 assists and seven rebounds.
It was another big win for the Cavs after a tough week, which included Kyle Korver missing Wednesday night's game due to the death of his brother, Kirk.

With Drew calling the shots, Cleveland hasn't missed a beat, winning both games since Lue, who has the third-best winning percentage in Cavaliers coaching history with .615, took a break from his roller-coaster of stress and sleep deprivation.
"[Lue] text me about 1:30 this morning and just told me, 'It's your show,'" Drew said via ESPN.com. "He wants me to go out there and just kind of do what I do.
"We'll tweak some things, we'll add some things, but for the most part we'll do what we've been doing. I don't want to confuse the guys."
With 11 games left in the regular season, it looks like Drew has the Cavs on the right track, and he'll be able to hold down the fort until Lue can "allow himself to heal before rejoining the team."
