Cavaliers Trade Rumors: Cleveland Preferred Other Deals to DeAndre Jordan Move

Adam WellsFeb 8, 2018

The Cleveland Cavaliers were heavily linked to DeAndre Jordan in trade rumors, but they reportedly preferred the deals they wound up making prior to Thursday's deadline.

Per ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne, Cleveland did have conversations with the Los Angeles Clippers about Jordan on Thursday, but they "already had more momentum on several other deals and liked the idea of adding more athleticism, youth and depth better."

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported the Cavs and Clippers were discussing deals for Jordan, including potential three-team trades.

Despite that apparent interest, Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman went in a number of different directions to try improving his roster.

Per Wojnarowski, the Cavs acquired George Hill from the Sacramento Kings and Rodney Hood from the Utah Jazz in a three-team deal that sent Jae Crowder and Derrick Rose to Utah. They also added Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. from the Los Angeles Lakers for Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye and a protected 2018 first-round pick, according to The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor.

The Cavaliers have been trying to find answers for their recent struggles after losing 13 of their last 19 games prior to their 140-138 overtime victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.

While they didn't add Jordan before the trade deadline, the Cavaliers added plenty of other new pieces as they look to make a fourth straight trip to the NBA Finals.
