Joel Embiid Will Attend Super Bowl After Playing 1st Back-to-Back of Career
Joel Embiid will travel to Minneapolis for Super Bowl LII after playing on consecutive days for the first time in his NBA career.
On Friday night, the 23-year-old center registered 17 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks over 31 minutes in a 103-97 win over the Miami Heat. The Philadelphia 76ers, who are 2-8 without Embiid, will unleash him against the Indiana Pacers on Saturday.
"I feel like I've been ready," Embiid said of playing on consecutive days, per ESPN.com. "Now, I'm going to feel like an NBA player. Taking days off in the NBA is not that easy."
As noted by Rotoworld's Tommy Beer, the 7-footer last played back-to-back games for Kansas in 2013.
Embiid will follow the career milestone by watching the Philadelphia Eagles face the New England Patriots at U.S. Bank Stadium. Per NBC Sports Philadelphia's Jessica Camerato, the Cameroon native wants to soak up the American tradition.
According to NBC Sports Philadelphia's Molly Sullivan, Embiid expressed interest in attending the Super Bowl after the Eagles won the NFC Championship Game. Head coach Brett Brown made an arrangement with his players.
He was either joking or had a change of heart, as the 76ers split their last eight games. While they are unlikely to follow the Eagles' path to a championship clash, playing Embiid on back-to-back nights gives them a better chance of preserving the Eastern Conference's No. 8 seed.
